His Honor the Judge of Myrtle Point was appointed by Gov. Holmerson as Circuit Judge in Coos County and sworn in at Coquille. Belloni resigned as Myrtle Point mayor to take the post and was succeeded by Elden Scoop Brodie.

Regional Forester Stone announced no quick decision on final plans for building timber access roads to develop the Agness area in the Siskiyou Forest. Surveys show feasibility for two routes Rogue River to Gold Beach and Rogue-Coquille divide to Powers. both roads planned. Funds are not yet available and study will consider timber purchaser construction of portions. Stone hopes progress can proceed at a safe pace.
Pee Wee teams meet Coquille Pee Wee at Myrtle Crest field Saturday at 10 am. Myrtle Point Pee Wees practice July 11 and 12 at 1 30 pm on Myrtle Crest field. Tennis moves to 3 5 pm on Mon Tue Thu Fri. softball at fair grounds Wed 1 30 pm.
The Coos County Fair Board invites theme ideas for the 46th annual fair parade to be held August 15 16 17 and 18. The best theme wins free admission for the proposer’s immediate family to gate and grandstand shows. Submissions are due by July 20 with the winner to be announced late next week at The Herald office.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club begins a four week trophy shoot series starting Friday July 12 at 8 pm. Shooters are classified and handicapped by ability with a trophy for each class winner each week and a larger overall trophy at the end. A bacon and ham shoot follows each event. To win the high overall trophy, participation in all four shoots is required. Harold Watzling, club president, invites all to join for fun.
Huntington Beach resident Wm F Wright visited Myrtle Point on a vacation journey through Northern Oregon and British Columbia. He sought old friends Henry A Schroeder and Archie Ames, learned from The Herald about Frank Henry and John Heeren’s marlin catch at La Paz, and noted changes since he left the area years ago.
Local golfers are notified that Bandon Golf Club will join Coquille Valley players for a Sunday morning tournament on July 21 at 9 am. About twenty Bandon players are expected, aiming to match local entrants. past July 4 results show strong showings from Ervin Wilberger and others across multiple flights with 124 golfers in the prior event.
Cool county granges held their annual picnic on July 4 at Cheery Creek Park with all 11 granges represented. Sixes Grange from Curry county led singing including America and God Bless America. Henry Henderson state deputy and Carl Holland Coos Pomona Master spoke. dancing and swimming followed with children and adults enjoying games and activities.
Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative announces three scholarships for 4 H Electricity club members in Coos County whose parents are members of the cooperative. Three scholarships will also be awarded in Curry County. The six scholarships will be awarded annually.

Fire of unknown origin, likely defective wiring, destroyed J H McCloskey’s large dairy barn at Norway last Wednesday. Loss estimated at 15000 with most coverage by insurance. Cool Fire Patrol battled flames for hours. pump house spark started the blaze.
Governor Robert D. Holmes commuted the death sentence of Geo. F. Sack to life in prison for the 1954 murder of his wife Goldie in Portland. Holmes cited opposition to capital punishment and invoked civility and modern ethics in his decision.
The University of Oregon in Eugene lists 311 spring term honor roll students, including Audrey A. of junior year in education. Thirty seven students achieved perfect 4.00 GPAs. eligibility covers undergraduates with 3.50 GPA or better tied to less than 12 term hours.
Howard Wolff 20, son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Wolff of Portland and grandson of Mr and Mrs C E Wolff of Myrtle Point, was critically hurt July 3 at Camp Myrtlewood when a springboard slip threw him into shallow water. Lifeguard Marvin Smith rescued him. he was taken to Mast Hospital and then to a bone specialist in Eugene for a shattered vertebra. He is a Myrtle Point native, a 1955 graduate, and a junior at LaVerne College working in local woods during vacation.
Later A revert from Rev. Lee Smith of the United Brethren church, who visited Howard at the hospital Monday, he underwent the operation and is doing nicely. Howard was recently licensed a minister in the church.

The Herald reports Klorice Luttrell of Gaylord and Broadbent Grange has won first prize in the 28th annual Highway Essay contest sponsored by the National Grange Foundation. Luttrell's essay advances to national judging in Washington D C where it will compete for further honors.
