His Honor the Judge of Myrtle Point was appointed by Gov. Holmerson as Circuit Judge in Coos County and sworn in at Coquille. Belloni resigned as Myrtle Point mayor to take the post and was succeeded by Elden Scoop Brodie.

Regional Forester Stone announced no quick decision on final plans for building timber access roads to develop the Agness area in the Siskiyou Forest. Surveys show feasibility for two routes Rogue River to Gold Beach and Rogue-Coquille divide to Powers. both roads planned. Funds are not yet available and study will consider timber purchaser construction of portions. Stone hopes progress can proceed at a safe pace.

Coos County Fair Parade Theme Contest Nears Deadline

The Coos County Fair Board invites theme ideas for the 46th annual fair parade to be held August 15 16 17 and 18. The best theme wins free admission for the proposer’s immediate family to gate and grandstand shows. Submissions are due by July 20 with the winner to be announced late next week at The Herald office.

Sportsmen to Sponsor Series of Shoots Fridays

The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club begins a four week trophy shoot series starting Friday July 12 at 8 pm. Shooters are classified and handicapped by ability with a trophy for each class winner each week and a larger overall trophy at the end. A bacon and ham shoot follows each event. To win the high overall trophy, participation in all four shoots is required. Harold Watzling, club president, invites all to join for fun.

Howard Wolff Injured in Fall from Myrtlewood Springboard

Howard Wolff 20, son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Wolff of Portland and grandson of Mr and Mrs C E Wolff of Myrtle Point, was critically hurt July 3 at Camp Myrtlewood when a springboard slip threw him into shallow water. Lifeguard Marvin Smith rescued him. he was taken to Mast Hospital and then to a bone specialist in Eugene for a shattered vertebra. He is a Myrtle Point native, a 1955 graduate, and a junior at LaVerne College working in local woods during vacation.
