Bible Camp Opens Monday at McKinley
More than thirty children have registered for the Presbyterian Bible camp at Camp McKinley beginning Monday July 21 and running through July 27. Director Rerrick Cochran leads the non denominational program with Rev Cochran Mrs Cochran and Portland Coquille church workers assisting. A registered nurse will be on duty and Lloyd Devers cooks for the week. Registration is 3.00 with 10.00 extra per child for meals, and those who have learned the 25 prescribed verses are admitted for 3.00 only.

Henry Brainard Brainerd Lost In Coos Bay Boat Mishap
Henry Brainard Brainerd, a Powers resident and camp boss for Coos Bay Lumber Company, disappeared after a boat capsized near lower Coos Bay. Survivor James Sitton says Brainerd swam for shore, waved for help, then vanished after a massive wave struck the rocks. Immediate survivors include his wife and two children. Mr and Mrs Henry Roselow are vacationing toward the Canadian lakes.

Pensioners Urged to Apply for Help as Benefits Decrease
Old age pensioners facing hardship due to a state fund cut should apply by letter to the County Welfare Office in Coos Bay. The legislature reduced the funded amount from 20 million to 10 million, with about 77 thousand dollars in county funds added. Rev Robert Greene of Coquille was named to the county commission, replacing Dr Ralph Milne.

The county school board elected R Devenport as vice chairman. The secretary is the county school superintendent. Terms assigned: William Charman one year, Herman Brelage and David Philpott two years, W R Davenport and Ivan Laird three years. Next meeting tentatively set for the second Tuesday in September at 8 00 p m in the courthouse. They studied the new 1948 49 budget law affecting most districts except Cove Bay North Bend and Coquille. Budgeting must occur in December so rural boards can report before hiring by March 15. Mrs Rose Belieu left for Ryderwood Washington with Mrs Kay Conley visiting aunt Mrs Lawrence Cook for two weeks.

May Welding Shop Owner Dies After Dozer Accident
W A May owner of the May Welding Shop died from injuries after a blade on a buldoser fell and trapped him while welding two miles above Bridge. He was taken to Schroeder mortuary and will be shipped to Chehalliz Washington for Masonic rites. May was a lifelong Mason and single.

Death in Powers Home After Short Illness
A resident of Powers dies at home after a brief illness following a few days away in Idaho. Born December 31, 1907, in Gem, she was preceded in death by family and is survived by relatives in Cloverdale California. Rebekah county assembly and N. G. Chapparell lodge members are noted in the obituary. Members of the Holt family and Jimmy Holt visit Davenport parents in Cloverdale. They plan to return home next Monday, traveling with their daughters.
