George Aubin Installed Head of Powers Lions

George Aubin was installed as President of the Powers Lions at the regular meeting Tuesday night. Elton A Schroeder, a past district governor of Lions International, won the installing office. Other officers named include Bill McLy man, J M Shepherd, Jack Bushnell, Archie Lane, James Gamewell, Harold Ross, Bruce Monroe and directors Elwin Frye and Evie McCulloch.

Carnival Coming For Rodeo Here

The Redwood City Shows carnival, one of the nation’s newest and largest, will perform at the Myrtle Point Fairgrounds for the Saddle Club’s second annual rodeo. It opens Friday Aug 1 with seven rides and twenty concessions, running through Aug 2 and 3. A A Prichard, advance publicity man, announced final staging plans this week.

Tragic cliff accident near Agness claims Frye family members

Report from Agness area describes a fatal incident on a cliff where John Frye and several relatives perished. Rescue crews and forest personnel aided survivors, with coroner Brewer Mills and state police at the scene. The elder Frye and other family members were long time residents of Agness.

Norton Accepts Oregon State College Post

Norton resigns as head of Oregon State College program as the board accepts his departure. Paul E Breuer, board chair, cites advancement in the field and regrets the decision. Norton will coordinate counseling for nine schools, assist registrar duties, and support admissions, starting in September. He holds degrees from Oregon University and has worked toward a doctorate at the University of Washington. Arnold E Hildebrand to head the agriculture department at Union High School. Myrtle Point Rodeo Brings Top Bucking Stars Next Week

The Myrtle Point rodeo announced by A M Roush features top cowboys and clowns from around the world, including Ross Dollarhide, Tommy Parrish, Capt Kidd, and Jimmie Sloan. Events run August 2 and 3 at the fairgrounds with Levi prize gear and Bucking horse performances by Max Barbour’s string.

Saddle Club dances during rodeo at Oaks pavilion

The Myrtle Point Saddle Club announces two dances at Oaks pavilion during its two day rodeo starting Saturday August. The Friday night dance on August 1 features Johnny Dayton and his dance band, with a second dance on August 2.

Powers Unit To Meet Tuesday Night

The Powers unit of the Southwestern Sportsmen's club will hold a regular meeting Tuesday in the Lions den at Fountain Lunch in Powers. Director Donald Stickney announced the session will include a color wildlife film.

Marian E Evans Killed While Logging at Powers

Marian E Evans 27 of Woodland Washington died when a sapling struck his head during tree topping at China Flats above Powers He had recently joined the Sykes logging crew and drove a caterpillar He was a World War II veteran born in Rifle Colorado not married Surviving are his mother and four Woodland siblings The body was sent to Woodland for services and burial The next driver’s license exam is July 28 at city hall from 10 00 am to 3 60 pm

The 1947-48 staff includes new hires Miss Janet Lee Ramedel of Lebanon Oregon to teach girls physical education and health. Miss Meredith Louise Olson from Eugene will teach vocational home economics. Howard LeRoy Means of Salem takes boys physical education health and general mathematics and assists the coach. Arno E Hildebrant to fill the vacancy created when Jack Givens was recalled to service. Hildebrant earned a B S in agriculture from Oregon State in 1941 with farm mechanics major. He is married with two children.
