Western Oregon will adopt the Oregon Fire Danger Rating System to replace the humidity based method. The system uses multiple factors and supplies a Burning Index each morning, enabling operators to plan the next day and limit work as fire danger rises.
Langrell notes closures will hinge on humidity in Forest Service areas. Studies show the Berning Index signals fire risk. below 40 45 fires are hard to control and become more serious as BI rises. Fire districts use BI to tune protection plans and responses.
The DeWayne Bros Circus performs two shows at the Coos County Fairgrounds on Wednesday July 16 under MP Lions Club sponsorship. Show times are 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The three ring extravaganza features a famed acrobatic troupe and benefits local community projects. Ted DeWayne leads the circus with a long history of acrobatic acts.

The Coos County Fair Board met to review the August 13 17 show at the Myrc Hotel. A Friday Senior Citizens Day was approved with free admission to grounds and Rodeo. Local seniors groups from Coquille Myrtle Point and Coos Bay attended and may run the day. The Loggers Rodeo moves to Sunday afternoon, TV coverage hoped. high climbing may be cut.
Nadine Street owner of the Double Ruffie in Myrtle Point plans to phase out stock at Albers Feed Store where Pete Petersen manages. Craig Canse, formerly with Coos Memories, is currently employed by Albers Feed Store.
