Magdalene Vance announces a blacklight dance revue at the senior high auditorium this Friday at 8 p m. Sponsored by the PTA, the show features about 50 children in 44 numbers with costumes handmade by the parents. Admission is 1.00 for adults and 0.40 for children under 12.
Greens at the Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club are being airified starting Monday at 7:30 AM under supervision of Buck Elliott owner. A greens expert from Eugene is handling the work with sand distributed to nine greens last week. Completion promises top fairways for weekend play and a planned golf banquet. An annual divot digging contest may pit Bandon and Coquille clubs. The Martin Kincheloe family visited the Howard Wilsons at Bandon.
Joie Chitwood Tournament of Thrills arrives Tuesday night at Myrtle Point Fair Grounds with a flying head on crash stunt. The program also features a Ford sedan blasted from a cannon, Capt Eddie Allen’s dive from 4000 feet, stock sedans rammed through flames, and a daredevil girl acting as a battering ram.
The Red Cross will run swim classes at the Coquille Community pool from August 3 to 14 for Myrtle Point youngsters. Ages split into Junior lifesavers 9 to 10, Senior lifesavers 10 to 11, Beginners 11 to 12 with sessions daily from 9 to 12. A $1.00 registration is charged. contact Mr Ross at Henry A. State police and Myrtle Point officers rounded up four juveniles aged 16 to 17 after a spree of vandalism and burglary. Charges include malicious destruction of property. hearings shifted to juvenile court in Coquille with County Judge James Harrison presiding.
Oregon’s unemployment compensation paid out for the 1952-53 benefit year totaled 16,853,519 dollars, second highest in 15 years. June benefits rose to 865,784 dollars, about 69 percent above June 1952, with 95,410 claims filed in the year and 70,500 workers drawing. Allen I. King known as Dude died at the Mast hospital Friday after weeks of illness from a heart attack. He was 70 years old and a resident of Seda Mel Seewee in Coes County. Graveside services were held Sunday at Powers and he was buried beside his eldest son Allan L. King Jr.

Danny Ray Merchen, age three, son of Mr and Mrs Orlan L Merchen Sitkum, drowned Sunday near the Coquille river. Residents searched the area and the body was taken to Myrtle Point Funeral Home. services pending. The Bridge Community church choir will present a musical at the Methodist church this Sunday. The program includes songs about Mary and the Lord and is open to the public.
In an exceedingly light turnout 39 voted yea and 1 voted nay to permit the Myrtle Point Common Council to levy 10276.16 dollars for 1953 54 to fund general city operations amid higher costs and inflation. The measure asks to exceed the 6 percent tax limit for the year.
