In a quiet courtroom, the judge calls the session to order as the jury returns to hear the latest remittance case. Lawyers present briefs and the defendant awaits, awaiting further testimony and a possible resolution.
The second annual Homemakers Vacation camp will be at Rel Creek camp near Lakeside from August 5 to 8. Organized by the Home Economies Extension Council with county committees, the five day program offers swimming nature study crafts and a campfire program at a minimal cost of four dollars per camper. Families are invited to attend on the final day.

Word from Florida confirms that Robert Annin jr married Miss Johnny Lou Jackson on June 10. Annin, raised in this community, is the son of Robert Annin sr who once worked as a Southern Pacific Railroad ticket agent and later led the Bank of Myrtle Point. The family left here in 1924 and has since lived in Florida.
A group of FFA members from Myrtle Point with instructor R W Schaad completed a 684 mile loop through Oregon. They traveled from the ag shop by chartered Gaylord vehicle, visiting Crescent City Medford Ashland Klamath Falls Malin Tulelaks the Ivan Rose ranch Modoc lava beds Crater Lake Diamond Lake and Foster Creek before returning to Medford Grants Pass and home. The trip included stays near Oregon Coves Malin and Crater Lake with activities such as fishing boating and exploring lava caves. Members listed include Verla Hermann Eldon Hermann Russell Dement Sam Dement Robert Lundy Ernest Wilson Marion Hufford Glen Olson Harland Wyrick Oran Shull Roy Parrish Vance Freeman Jack Grant Lawrence Schaad and others.
Elder Charles Barklow supervises major remodeling at the Brethren church started this week. The west annex roof is being replaced and the annex interior repapered and refinished. A basement door under the northwest corner will be graveled and plumbing fixtures updated. Exterior walls will receive several coats of paint.
A raft of marriage licenses and ceremonies were reported this week in coastal and interior communities. Frank Lee and Grace Ellen Amend wed in the region, while Derwin Albert Biwer and Elisebeth Bock joined in North Bend. Other couples include Herschel Phillipe and Mellie Chapman in Drain, Robert F Gebhardt Jr and Myra J Hanson in Marshfield, Joe A Koolen and Lauri E Turpin in Marshfield, Noah E Davison and Alma Seiwall in Bandon, Victor Richard Stonelake and Emma Pierson, Arthur Knight and Kathrine Stone, Arvel Lockwood and Dora Carfos, and Russell Gilbert with Hazel Rice, among many others. Licenses were issued or applied for by several additional pairs including James Rogers and Alice Green, Stanley Vivian Marrion and Carol Wilhelm, Orvald Livermore and Dorothy Roth, and Francis Slover with Elvira Thorwald, with ceremonies conducted by local ministers and justices in courts and private homes.
William Frank Ward arrested July 1 for operating a motor vehicle without a license. He paid a fine of 83 plus costs. George William Salisbury and Gerald S Whitlatch were also taken into custody July 1 for similar license violations. Ralph Evan Krohn was arrested Friday for speeding a truck and fined 10 dollars plus costs.
Mr and Mrs Clinton Carman of Gaylord will host next Sunday for the fox breeders of this section. Members of the local organization will assemble at Strong Myrtle Grove for a picnic. Fur farming enthusiasts are invited to attend.
The Presbyterian Ladies Aid will meet next Wednesday at the home of Mrs. C Murp hy in Bridge with those who have cars and those without transport invited to meet at the church at 190. Transportation will be furnished. About 25 members enjoyed last week’s Fourth of July meeting with Miss Emma Schneider and Mrs. T G Summersin as hostesses. The regular business session was held in the church porches decorated in red white and blue. Refreshments were served on Miss Schneider’s lawn with the patriotic color scheme at the tables.
Dr R L Clinton, a Bay Area optometrist, was in Myrtle Point Tuesday night making plans to visit Barker Jewelry next Wednesday. He intends to return twice a month with exact dates to be announced.
Mrs A M Sunstrup was appointed to the library board by the city council at their Monday evening meeting in City Hall, replacing Mrs Kathryn Huling who resigned. Several letters were read but no action taken. Card parlor licenses were ordered issued to FC Osborne and Richard Arnold. Mayor Kring and councilmen Breuer Barker Hermann and Sum erlin attended.
The county approves a refunding bid to retire ponds maturing August 1 and September 1 due to tax shortfalls. The new issue carries 4 percent interest with a 6 cent premium per $100. Original bonds bore 4.4 percent. In April 1935 the best refund offered 5 percent with a 28 cent premium, and in September 1935 the bid accepted was 4 percent with a 10 cent premium.
Frank Young, ill for two years and now bedbound at home, prepares for an operation next week. He will spend the latter part of the week at Mast hospital for further care. Initially treated as diabetes, physicians recently diagnosed the illness as a goiter after extensive medical workup.
County records show Tom KE Dardis, 37, jailed July 27 on drunken public charges. Jack Von Gress, 3, with a vagrancy conviction in Marsh field county, began a 36 day sentence on the Fourth. Ira W. Davis, 3, arrested July 6, held for Multnomah county on non support. turned over July 8.
Roderic Barklow underwent a tonsillectomy at the hospital last week and has remained seriously ill at his mother Mabel Barklow's home since Saturday. He appears troubled by after effects from a hypodermic given to prevent hemorrhages but was much better at press time.
Rev B F Miller, formerly of Myrtle Point, will begin a series of evangelistic meetings at Myrtle Point Assembly of God with an 11 o clock service next Sunday. Miller has pastored in Klamath Falls for two years and is described as an able preacher and Bible student. The local church invites the public to attend the opening service.
The Myrtle Point Young Democrats host a large turnout from Con, Curry and Douglas counties for their monthly meeting at Hummel Cafe Monday eve. June 13 at 6 28, with plans to entertainment President Roosevelt during a tip up the Oregon Coast highway escort from Gold Beach. Speakers include Senator Fisher R G Currier William Gosser and others as arrangements are led by J H McCloskey.
A new bridge will span Rowland Creek as part of the Cutoff Road project in Coos County. The 170 foot span supports a 12 ton load and 12 feet six inches width, allowing one way traffic. The bridge uses Forestry Service specifications and reuses cables from Boulder Dam. The road will connect Hayes and Bones ranches area to Eckley, with the logging road serving public use. Properties L. Lear, Powers, H. Smith and K. P. Daniels are involved in the property transfer related to the project.
A federal order reducing Marshfield relief office expenses to 1008 monthly prompted a last Thursday meeting. To meet the cut without closing the office, seven salaried staff will take two weeks unpaid vacation each month for the rest of the summer, while costs such as rent and other operating expenses are trimmed.
In Curry county northern Oregon gold discovery near Sixes river drew few settlers at first. Miners Hoyte and Bailey ventured into South Sixes in the 1860s. a strange full moon laugh echoed from caverns, as they fled leaving gear behind. The tale spooked others, yet the creek’s gold persisted and more miners came.
