Coos County sheep producers sold 480 fat lambs in the first yearly market pool, grossing 10 03581 dollars. Wooled lambs averaged 23 75 per hundred and shorn lambs 223 30. Sixteen producers consigned, with next pool planned for July 13 grading and July 14 shipping.

Kathy Winkelman Wins Miss Thunderbird Baton Trophy
Kathy Winkelman a high school senior baton instructor brought home the Miss Thunderbird trophy from the Thunderbird Baton Clinic at Lee Pacific College Port a Miss. She competed with 80 girls and won the trophy again this year after last year’s win. More than 170 attended the school in the sixth year Winkelman has headed the program.

Tragic Electrocution Claims Fossil Child
Six year old Mack Zimmerman son of Mr and Mrs Floyd Zimmerman of Fossil died after being electrocuted at home about noon Monday. He was grandson of Mrs George Slagle of Myrtle Point and allegedly hung a hose to a water outlet when the accident occurred. State Policeman Ron Lewis performed mouth to mouth resuscitation before the boy was rushed to Condon Medical Clinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Reclamation Outlines Coquille Valley Irrigation Plan
Bureau of Reclamation officials briefed the Cool Soil and Water Conservation committee on a Coquille valley irrigation plan. The plan calls for more than 10 000 acre feet of storage to support irrigation of about 6 000 additional acres, with releases to guard against saltwater intrusion during low flow periods.

Graveside services for Leonard Augustus Guild were held in Norway Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday July 2 with the Rev. Gerald Nelson of the Methodist church officiating. Guild was born January 3, 1887 in Vernonia and died June 30 in Powers at age 68. He lived in Powers for six years and previously in Coos and Curry counties.

Fatal Log Accident Kills Boy in Foster Care
Cecil Raymond White Jr. an 11 year old foster son of the Edward Sanford family and Lois Jean Brown of Empire died July 1 when a log fell from a loading truck. The incident occurred as Cecil and another foster boy Stanley McPherson were in the cab. The truck rolled after air brakes were released and both boys jumped to exit. a log struck Cecil. Cecil was born in Missouri on October 8, 1963.
