Well Dated May Essential When Stored Chopped

Agricultural engineer Mr. Huber explains storage moisture needs for hay. Whole or undried alfalfa can be stored at 24 percent moisture, up to 29 percent in some cases, while chopped hay should reach at least 25 percent moisture and be cut to 1.5 to 2 inches. He warns chopped hay is more prone to spontaneous ignition if too wet and urges proper curing and moisture testing.
