Oregon Highway Commission discusses Highway 42 rebuilding. Officials say bonds authorized by the legislature were not tied to a specific road but intended for Highway 42. activists, including Housewives For Highway 42, push for action and expect an update next week.
The Bureau of Land Management reports top prices for Douglas fir at the Cone Bir district sale. Sun Studs Inc of Roseburg paid 61.25 per M for 4 831 M bd ft of Douglas fir plus 1477 M bd ft of Hemlock Port Orford cedar and western red cedar for a total of 324 362 00. Roseburg Lumber Co was an unsuccessful bidder. Ingram Bros of Bandon purchased 2091 M bd ft of salvage timber 3 miles east of Fairview at 34 50 per M totaling 68 835 40. Robert N Cameron of Roseburg was the other bidder on that tract. Next sale is February 19 1960 in Coos Bay District with details at 375 Park Ave Coos Bay Oregon.
The Baptist church announces a series of meetings led by Rev Dorit Kinman from January 31 to February 3. Topics focus on soul winning through prayer guidance of the Holy Spirit and biblical principles with nightly sessions at 7 30 pm and Sunday services at 9 45 am 11 am and 7 30 pm.
David W Pearson grand master of Masons in Oregon will visit Chadwick Lodge No 68 Coquille on Wednesday February 3 for the official visit of district No 12. Other lodges represented include Myrtle No 78 Myrtle Point Bandon No 130 and Bing ham No 168 Powers. The event includes a program outline for the year and arrangements led by Chester E Weed district deputy. Dinner at 630 pm and lodge opening at 745 pm all masons invited.
The Myrtle Point Jaycees and Lions club raised 21917 for the March of Dimes drive with road blocks at three locations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Leaders included Dick Severson and Bud Ca Don Troxell. Walkers from Coquille to Myrtle Point featured President Ben Daniels and Art Evans among others.
Frank Rema was re elected president of the Coos County Livestock Association at its 25th annual meeting in Myrtle Point on Saturday January 23. Other officers include vice president John Carman secretary Grant Scott and new directors Fred Gross Walt Curtis holdover directors Bob Geaney Farrell Rankin and Hollis Mast.
Rep Charles Porter meets with Bureau of Reclamation officials in Washington to explore a Pacific Northwest basin account to finance the Rogue River Basin project. The plan would tap revenues from hydroelectric projects to fund irrigation in Oregon’s 4th district, including Merlin and Sucker Creek divisions, with bills anticipated in a future session.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce will launch its annual membership drive next week under chairman CoT. Poehlitz. The effort targets firms and individuals by letter and personal contact, with associate memberships available to farmers and others.
Funeral services for four year old Shirley Dee Bell of Gold Beach are set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Gold Beach Presbyterian church with Rev Francis Klontz officiating. Shirley born in Myrtle Point July 2, 1955, died Sunday in Sacred Heart hospital Eugene after severe illness diagnosed as spinal meningitis. Survivors include her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Caleb Bell and siblings John Ross and William. grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Wm Lindeborg and Fred Mantz, and others listed.
The Follies of 60 presented by the Myrtle Point group with Ed Dolezal directing will be staged Saturday February 6 at 8 p m. The show Memory Lane features acts by local communities with vendors and a large list of entertainers including a Jolson impersonation in blackface. Committees and helpers from Sitkum assist the production.
Pomona Grange launches a one year program starting January 1 1960 to boost grange work and community service. Prizes include a chair as first prize and emphasis on purifying home water supplies. An exhibit at the county fair will demonstrate methods. The HEC chaired by Farr with B Holland and others will organize activities and a February 4 meeting at 10 am in the county courthouse conference room.
The Seventh Day Adventist welfare center on Gravelford road will open each Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 30 p.m starting February 9. In the past six months it reported 1245 clothing items given, 1147 hours of help work, $163.99 donated, 196 people aided, and 28 food baskets distributed.
The Windy Creek timber sale in the Siskiyou National Forest, 21 acres in the Vallew Ranger district, was sold January 22, 1960. Participating firms included South Oregon Plywood and Mountain Fire Lumber of Grants Pass, Oregon, among others. Estimated volume 1 600 M bd ft Douglas Fir valued at $3980 with bid $51.00. 100 M bd ft of Port Orford cedar and other species valued at $36.35 with bid $36.50. total appraised value $66,995 and total bid value $85,250. purchaser to fund maintenance and trucking for around 45 loads.
Governor Mark Hatfield will address the Coquille Chamber of Commerce at a 7:30 p.m. meeting in the Coquille Community Building. A banquet fundraiser of 200 dollars per plate supports Highway 42 action, reservations via listed committee members.

He cited a March 14 meeting, Portland dry dock, Green Peter dam funding, Yaquina Bay project, The Dalles dam dedication, Northwest California intertie studies, and Nixon representation at The Dalles.

The Elks Lodge of the Valley near Norway voted Tuesday to buy the Co wath Valleys Country Club property from the Weems and take over the Carl Elvers lease. An intensive remodeling program will start soon, promising one of the finest clubs in the region.
