The derby will close after this week with weekly prizes only, as past week had high water and no weigh-ins.
The 4-H Leaders Association elected new officers and discussed building a 4-H dormitory at the county fairgrounds. Plans include an April auction sale of donated food and merchandise to fund the project, a square dance, and committee appointments.
The Myrtle 1-H Cooking Club organized for 1951 at the Grange hall on Sunday January 14 elected officers. Sharon Ansley is president Veroni Cupinski vice president Phyllis Belanger secretary Peggy Dayton song leader Grena Stevens reporter. The club will meet the first Sunday afternoon of each month.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club announces a prise trap shoot at the local Grounds near Myrtle Point. It will start next Sunday at 6 a.m. and run until darkness. Walter Crim, president, says shotgun trap and rifle shooting will be enjoyed and urges all interested shooters to attend.
All log truckers, lumber truckers, truck drivers, loggers, sawmill operators, truck insurance firms, and truck/trailer suppliers in Oregon are invited to a general meeting at Coquille Community Center Friday January 26 at 7 30 p m. The event is sponsored by the Southern Oregon Truckers League with Allen Smith and George Burr in leadership.

A Monday afternoon blaze gutted an old frame structure in Powers at 2 15 p m. The fire swept through the building in seconds before firefighters could gain control. No injuries are reported and the cause is under investigation.
The county advisory council of home extension met at Coquille city hall on January 15 to discuss the spring festival and the summer Home makers Camp. Bill Downing commander of the American Legion thanks children teachers parents and the Legion Auxiliary for their Tide of Toys drive. Four large cartons were sent to underprivileged European children many of whom had never owned toys before.
Mrs Della Belloni and her son Harold announce the sale of their transfer business to Jack Kershaw of North Bend, operator of MK Trucks Inc. The Bellonis will stay in the fuel business handling heating oils coal wood and presto logs and manage the transfer business for Mr Kenshaw starting January 1.
Clarence Osika will address the Chamber of Commerce at Banque on Monday as part of a planned re organization. The session aims to outline new structures and member involvement for the group.
Judge Harrison was the guest speaker as Lyle Carver urged Lions to visit Mast hospital for blood typing to help Korea era wounded soldiers. The call emphasized urgent blood needs for fighting men in Korea.
The Future Each student in the organization invites their whole family. School board members and faculty are invited. A crowd of around 2366 anticipated.
Coos County Dairymen elected officers and directors for two and one year terms at the annual meeting in Coquille. Named were Clyman Coliver Everett Seenerta Ben Monson Hauser Abe Grossen Davenport Monson and Cross among others. The gathering featured Harold Ewart Oscar Hagg and Ben Simonson speaking on dairy herd improvement and marketing as directors plan upcoming officer elections.
The Friday program at 8 pm in the high school auditorium features the Music and Dramatics departments presenting a two hour show. Jim Burrows directs with Charlie Bingham Bob Whitaker Philip Mast and Richard Briggs in the cast. Tickets are adults 80 cents students 50 cents. The one act play Minor Miracle replaces One Foot in Heaven, presented as a three act all school project on Friday March 2.
