Red Cross explains two main allotment classes for armed forces dependents Class EE allows the serviceman to designate any amount from his pay and Class Q requires the service man and government to contribute 40 60 or 80 dollars based on pay. Government adds 40 67 50 or 85 dollars per dependent. Class Q allotments are not sent to dependents automatically and require formal annualization unless the serviceman served in the Far East early in the Korean conflict. The Dependents Assistance Act governing Class Q took effect August 1 1980.

Harris Ellsworth reports a plan to fund 173 new Navy ships and major air carrier rebuilding. The Naval program aims to accelerate production with Defence Production Act loans and National Production Authority setup, shifting from WPA-style procedures to private-supplier loans and rapid plant expansion.
The Myrtle Point city council unanimously adopted a water rate increase of about 20 for financing a proposed sewage disposal plant. The rise becomes effective February 1 and all conflicting ordinances are repealed. Police officer David Gregory resigned in writing, with resignation accepted. Recorder Perkins was instructed to seek Social Security information for city employees.

Harold Clarno Tex Billingsley L H Pearce and Perry Roper will attend the State Fair board meeting in Portland at the Multnomah hotel this Thursday to Saturday. Roper and Pearce left for Hope City while Clarno and Billingsley left today and all plan to return to Myrtle Point on Sunday. County fair representatives will set dates for county fairs and the Salem State Fair with E L Clausen and Norwood Browne possibly joining. A Townsend meeting is set for Sunday January 2 at the Legion hall with a luncheon at 12:30 p m and business at 2 p m.

Veterans eligible for G I farm training should contact Myrtle Point Union High School. The program, run by Ted Kirsch, covers welding, blacksmithing, farm machinery repair and shop skills plus farm bookkeeping soils pastures livestock and related practices. Classes meet Monday nights 7 to 11 in the agricultural building with cooperation from the Division of Vocational Education. Benefits under the GI bill lapse if not in training by July 1951.
