The new board includes Ray Getchell George Linn Dr. Robert Ley Mrs. Parm Patrick Larry Wilson Bill Downing Lou Holiman Floyd Hall and Leroy Robinson. The group reorganized and planned a membership drive and future activities, with Getchell promising active leadership and committee appointments.
The Coos County Livestock Association will hold its annual meeting at the Coquille Community Building on Saturday January 25 starting at 10 a m A luncheon will be served at noon by the Coquille Grange ladies The program organized by the board includes discussions on vitally important topics for livestock producers and was announced by Hollis Mast president with details sent to members by secretary Mrs Tom Guerin Jr

Walter Barklow a Myrtle Point real estate man and city council member filed Monday January 13 his declaration of candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Coos County commissioner. He has 16 years in real estate and 5 years as Barklow Realty manager. He chairs streets on the council and has forest service experience including road construction and fire control. Barklow also served as VA loan appraiser and building inspector and held posts with Red Hat Day Conservationist Week Rotary and sportsmen groups. His slogan is I am for better roads and better service in Coos County.
District Governor Larry Sheehan visited the Powers Lions Club for its January meeting. He credited Powers for a strong hall of fame stance and lauded the skating rink project for aiding juvenile delinquency prevention and fostering good citizenry among youth.
Myrtle Point F F A chapter held its annual public speaking contest. Class winners were Glenn Kissell, Danny Dollarhyde, Donald Morris, and Gary Morris. Gary Morris represented the chapter at the district contest in Grants Pass on January 15 with David Morris and Thor Jamesgard also attending. Other schools included Grants Pass Crater High Illinois Valley Phoenix and Eagle Point. The Crater High delegate won the district contest.
Local players stage a charity double header at the High School gym on Thursday evening January 30 at 8 o'clock to support the March of Dimes polio campaign. Myrtle Point JC's face Lions Club challenge and Bucks meet High School alumni in a fundraiser with no gate charge and a halftime donation appeal.
