Saddle Club Elects Officers and Plans Oregon Horsemen Meet

The Myrtle Point Saddle Club elected officers for 1949 at the Myrtle Hotel banquet room. Leland Barklow became president, Wayne Watson vice president, Tex Billingsley secretary, Ad Christensen treasurer, with Ann Roush Harold Clarno and George King as directors. The club hosts the Oregon Horsemen's Association meet this year, expected to draw hundreds of show horses and thoroughbreds to Myrtle Point in July.

Fishermen Win Big in Lions Derby Amid Cold Weather

Ervin Wilberger topped the Steelhead derby with three strong catches including a 12 pound ven. deeuty winning first prize for the sixth week. Wayne Madewell took second with a 10 pound 4 ounce Steelhead as third prize was unawarded due to no entries. Weather slowed fishing all week, with calm ahead expected. An error in last week’s report misnamed Marvin Floyd as winner. the appropriate winner was Marvin’s younger brother.
