Bigfoot Tracks Reported Near Dora Store Meadow
On August 15 1967 Jack Woodruff found six large footprints in a meadow about one mile east of the Dora Store. The prints crossed the Coquille River and extended along the East Fork before recrossing. Six adults observed the casts which have been kept on display at Flora Laird Library for a week. The footprint measures about 1 foot from toe to heel amid legend of Sasquatch sightings from California to Canada.

Livestock Association To Meet In Coquille
The Coos County Livestock Association will hold its 34th annual meeting in Coquille on Saturday January 11. Registration starts at 9 30 a m in the Community Building. Ross Linkletter will discuss sheep care at lambing time and saving baby lambs. Bob Jacobson will cover his work with commercial fishermen and the Sea Grant program at Oregon State University. Reports from several groups will be heard and 1969 officers elected. All livestock men are invited.

Shy the Panther Franks Dies in Myrtle Point Fire
Edwin Henry Franke known as Shy the Panther dies from asphyxiation in a house fire last Sunday. He lived by the Spruce Street Bridge, owned a metal house, kept many animals, and was once a lawyer who moved to Myrtle Point in 1937.

Antique Car Show Date Set By Chamber For June 28

Giant Port-Orford cedar found on Siskiyou National Forest
District Ranger Harold Simes reports the new National Champion Port Orford cedar near Powers Oregon confirmed by the American Forestry Association. Donald Denniston measured a circumference of 39 feet 0 inches and a 12 feet 5 inch DBH with a total height of 239 feet. The tree yields about 43 500 board feet and is valued at over 12000 dollars in stumpage. Plans for access road and picnic area are planned.

Willings Found in Myrtle Creek
The body of Norman Allen Willings, 17, of Myrtle Point, was recovered January 4 from Myrtle Creek after being missing since December 24. Police say drowning as the cause. he disappeared while with other boys along Myrtle Creek Road above Bridge. Funeral services were held January 7 at the Myrtle Point Chapel of Coos Mortuaries.

Jim Howe was elected president of the city council at the Monday night meeting. He will preside in Mayor Wilberger’s absence.
