The 13th annual Song of Tillamook convention urged continued dairy research and favored establishing funds and committees. It approved temporary upgrades to the college creamery, called for a new dairy products laboratory, and backed a $25,000 legislative appropriation for enforcing the Oregon cream and milk grading law. Officers elected included Lyle Hammack and G W Wilster. winners in six dairy product contests were named, with top honors going to several Oregon firms and creameries.
Myrtle Point bowlers edge Coquille 2-1 at Ma on Friday. Menning led Coquille with 438 while Eggers of Myrtle Point posted 430. Coquille lineup included Menching 496 Chord 996 Brendenhagen 410 Maas 907, with other scores listed.
A full house at City hall heard a Myrtle Point Woman's club travelogue on South America. The talk praised Panamanians and locals as courteous and easy going, with notes on American work life. The meeting was led by Mrs. Paul Breuer. park tools were secured and David Knell named caretaker. A homemakers camp was announced for Corvallis, with next month set for a Homes and Gardens program led by Mrs. Perkins.
The Myrtle Point Rotary club met at the Myrtle cafe last Thursday with 20 members present to hear Rev. George Tierney from Marshfield speak on Rotary principles. The Myrtle Palmé club formed about two months ago plans a special meeting to celebrate the charter in the near future.
P J Eaton, field representative, explained in Myrtle Point that buyers get $1.50 in blue stamps for each dollar of orange stamps purchased. For every $1.08 spent on orange stamps, 50 cents in blue stamps are issued. Surplus foods available include butter raisins rice pork lard corn meal and more with 80 percent of relief families participating.
Eleven Coos county students from Marshfield Coquille North Bend and Empire join the University of Oregon choral union for Handel's Messiah. The 500 voice choir with a 70 member orchestra performs March 2 in McArthur Court under Theodore Kratt.
A joint Conference of Ashland Grants Pass Myrtle Point Churches of Brethren will be held in the church this Sunday March 2. Morning session starts at 9 with no service for all ages. Rev Frank D Howell from La Verne College will deliver the morning sermon Come and See. Dinner will be served at noon. Afternoon sessions feature discussions and talks by local pastors and Mrs. R C Flory Grants Pass. Evening service at 7 30 features Rev Howell on Confidential Faith. The public is invited.
Sixteen Oregon counties cut fatal traffic tolls in 1940 compared with 1939 as announced by Secretary of State Earl Snell. Multnomah remained highest with 92 deaths, while counties Crook Gilliam Jefferson Morrow Sherman and Wallowa had no fatalities in 1940. Josephine rose to 11 deaths from 2 in 1939 and Umatilla increased to 17 from 7.
Mr and Mrs Ben Deniels of Marshfield were Saturday night and Sunday guests at the Breuer residence and at a related gathering. Attendees included Walter and others, with Breuer noted in social rounds.
The Townsend Club will host the Evergreen Players from Seattle performing a Romeo themed program with readings on Sunday March 30 at the North Bend hall. Myrtle Point led county clubs in attendance with Powers reporting long-distance support from Marshfield Charleston and Anser. A potluck dinner precedes a 2 pm performance for caravan members and public invitation.

Judge Brand will speak to teachers at Coquille High School at 7 30 pm. Principals may bring interested staff from their districts. The talk covers his experience with court cases and naturalization of aliens, aimed at local educators.
