Dell Rema Passing Remembered After 95 Years

J L Dell Rema, son of Hiram Farmer Rema and Mary Josephine Mannon, died February 17 at 78. Born March 4, 1866 in Lincoln Nebraska he lived in Wyoming and Coos County as a rodeo performer rancher and showman. He married Effie Lakey in 1913 and later worked on Highway 101 and Catching Creek logging. Services were at Catching Creek cemetery February 20 1986. Also notes Cyrus Cub Scout gifts and Myrtle Point PTA meeting details.

Georgia-Pacific Repairs Rail Bridges At Broadbent

Georgia Pacific officials announce start of flood damage repairs on the rail line to Powers. Ambrose Caudle says steel trestles will span the Coquille River to replace two bridges washed away near Broadbent, four feet higher to avoid future floods. Mobley notes about 80 loads of logs and veneer pass daily during outages. Candie says every effort is being made to complete the repairs as soon as possible.

Final Myrtle Grove school budget meeting outlines costs

The school board and budget committee meet tonight at 8 for the final budget hearing on a 1 101 306 74 general fund with 60 49 percent for instruction. Two new teachers were added amid rising enrollment, and an item of 30 000 for property acquisition for a new high school was questioned.

Bobcats Clinch Official Crown Chance With Key Victory

Myrtle Point moved within reach of the State A-2 tournament by beating Coquille 46 40 and Bandon last weekend. Led by Reed Gurney and Terry Pullen the Bobcats outscored Coquille 18 13 in the first period and held an 8 point halftime edge. Despite a late Coquille rally Myrtle Point maintained the lead as Gurney Neal and Waterman paced the attack and Reeves noted the win while chasing the final season goals.

Headon Collision Injures Father Fleming and Liday

A head on crash near Norway Friday night left Father Michael Fleming in serious condition at Keizer Memorial hospital in North Bend. Kenton Liday, 17, remained in serious condition at McAuley hospital in Coos Bay. Witnesses using about 40 mph reported the wreck, which totaled both cars, a 61 Ford and an 83 Ford sedan.

Business Educators Gather in Southwestern Oregon

Florence to Brookings educators will meet Saturday February 27 to discuss business education in Southwestern Oregon. The conference, hosted by Southwestern Oregon College business and commerce, is led by Donald Moffit with about thirty-five educators invited.

Myrtle Point Garden club president Mrs. Dorma Peterson announced winners of the club essay and poster contest. Grades five and six essays on How to Plant Trees named Susan Abel first, Karen Jones second, Veronica Hewlett third. Hewletts poster A tree in the forest won first for Veronica Hewlett, Steve Hamilton second, Martin Simons third. Grades seven and eight essays on A Stake in The Future awarded Grace Cushing first, Dave Daniels second, Lee Ellen Walton and Dorothy Ralph tied for third. Winners advance to district and state contests. judges were Siskiyou Anderson and B. O. Coppess.

Troop 90 Holds Organizational Meeting At Rotary Park

Twenty boys attended the organizational meeting for Boy Scout Troop 90 reported by Jack Knife a foreman. Ed Street The Scout Troop will meet at 7:30 pm every Thursday in the Scout building in Rotary Park. All boys interested in joining are invited to attend. Anyone with a used Scout uniform to donate should leave it at the Dean Mason Bookkeeping office.

Easter Lily Sale Slated to Aid Crippled Children

The National Easter Lily sale to benefit crippled children will be in downtown Myrtle Point in April per city chairman Mrs. J. M. Myers. Lily seals will reach households by mail. Camp Easter Seal at Ten Mile Lake enters its 18th year seeking donations of desserts, flatware, towels, linens, hot pads, and fishing gear. Dow Chemical donates styrofoam logs for a new camp boathouse.

The Rotary marks their sixth anniversary in Myrtle Pedal with local celebrations and community service plans. Roterians participate in a day of activities honoring past projects and future initiatives.

Coquille Elks Emblem Club to Install Officers

The Coquille Elks Emblem Club will hold installation of officers Saturday night February 27 at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge. A dinner at eight p.m. proceeds the installation. Tony Milosevich of Coquille will be installed as president with Myrtle Polat as vice president and Fern Weeley recording secretary. Ben Bowes and Don Lehman serve as corresponding secretary and treasurer, both from Coquille, with Betty Parker from Bandon as financial secretary.

Mrs Dorothy Casbin Hay 55 of Myrtle Point died Friday February 19. Born June 9 1900 in Hayal Virginia she is survived by son Theodore of Myrtle Point daughter Burns Sutherland of Birmingham Michigan a sister Mrs Bass Edwards Clintwood Virginia and eight grandchildren. Funeral services are set for today with details incomplete in the notice.
