Bloodmobile Visit Planned for Myrtle Point

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will stop at Myrtle Crest gym on Monday February 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. Local chairwoman Connie Detlefsen urges community members to donate, noting several residents need blood and two open heart surgeries recently performed. People may call Detlefsen or Curt Beckham to have names added to the donor list.

Southwest Oregon Jazz Festival at Myrtle Crest School

Oregon Music Educators Association hosts the 3rd Southwest Oregon Jazz Festival at Myrtle Crest School on Saturday Feb 26. Six high school bands from Reedsport Pacific Coquille Florence Klamath Falls and Myrtle Point perform in the afternoon with Mt Hood Community College Jazz Band headlining the evening at 7 30 pm.

Myrtle Point Chamber Adopts 2195 Budget With Feasibility Study

The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce approved an 2195 budget at a Monday meeting at Loy's. There is 600 allotted for a study on the feasibility of a fresh water lake south of Myrtle Point near the Coos County Fairgrounds. Other line items include dues 985, promotions 3, publicity 100, highways and roads 10, fish and game 10, secretary salary and meals 980, decorations 250, emergency fund 100, general expenses 100, and a 100 parade float. President Mitch Myers asked the Retail Trade Committee to review the Greeter Program for future operation, and Milton Schroeder noted Mrs Art Ratcliffe resigned as official greeter.

Members of the National Honor Society at Myrtle Point High School will canvass Myrtle Point neighborhoods on Heart Sunday February 27 to raise funds for the Oregon Heart Association.

Library story hour aims to spark reading habit

Flora M. Laird Memorial Library hosts Story Hour each February Saturday. Children split into two groups. sessions include wishes with candles and mythology talks by Powers teachers. Regional meeting invited for Myrtle Point officials

At Myrtle Crest School the Campfire Girls held the Father and Daughter Banquet. Kimmy and Tamny Lakey earned half campships for selling 110 candy boxes. Special Snoopy Awards for 75 or more were given to Melody Lovell Kate Payne Julie Fullerton Leslie Potts Debbie Clark and Sheli Herman.
