In the state competition Rayevich earned fourth place with 35 1/3 points while Myrtle Polat finished ninth. The event marks a second consecutive year of strong showings for the team and peers.
Mast pinned all four opponents to win the 168 pound championship in the opening round. Rayevich earned fourth place after two decisions and two losses. Other competitors like Mosman and Magen exited early, with several wrestlers failing to place.
The Oregon Dairy Products Commission invites high school graduates ages 16 to 25 with dairy farm ties to apply for the Dairy Princess program. Applicants must have lived on a dairy farm at least five years and be prepared for public appearances on TV and radio. Local committees seek names and addresses through Myrtle Point High School.
Coos County 4-H clubs announce a Saturday litter drive on March 11 from Highway 42 in Coquille to La Verne Park. About 250 4-Hers and 40 adult leaders will collect roadside litter along a 13 mile stretch supported by the Empire Builders Club to foster environmental awareness and community pride. A post-drive picnic at La Verne Park will close the event with games.
Fifty three pints were donated during the Red Cross Bloodmobile stop in Myrtle Point last Monday. Six potential donors were deferred. Three open heart surgery patients received the required number of donations for a blood replacer. More than 200 different saleds will be available at the Coos Council PTA luncheon March 17 at 1390 W Thompson Road Coos Bay from 11 a.m.
Thomas O Dwyer of Coos Bay named Coos County campaign chairman for the Committee to Re elect Senator Mark Hatfield. Gerry Frank said statewide headquarters opened at 255 Church Street Salem and that O Dwyer previously held the same post in 1966.
William R Palmroth editor and general manager of the Myrtle Point Herald is appointed to the Coos County United Good Neighbors Fund board for a two year term. He fills the seat left by Joe Stewart Myrtle Point School Superintendent whose term expired. The 35 member board includes community leaders from across Coos County with Lew Heimbigner also representing Myrtle Point.
The University of Oregon Bureau of Business and Economic Research reports January 1972 bank debits for Coos County and Oregon down from earlier periods. Coos County recorded 46.6 million in January 1972, vs 60.1 million in December 1971 and 49.1 million in January 1971, with 367 banks statewide showing a 13.1 percent drop from December 1971 and a 21.1 percent rise from January 1971. Oregon totals for January 1972 reach 96.7 billion, down from December 1971's 6.56 billion and up from January 1971's 4.71 billion.
C Dave Mrkvicka of Myrtle Point and Harry T Rolfe of Powers were among 145 people finishing a February sewage works operators short school at Oregon State University. The annual school serves cities, sanitary districts, and private utilities to reduce health hazards and promote efficient operation. The State Department of Environmental Quality cooperates with OSU Civil Engineering in sponsoring the program.
Wally Knight, president of United Good Neighbors Fund in Coos County, announced the UGN executive committee accepted John Topits resignation as UGN secretary executive director effective April 1 1978. A search for a successor begins immediately and resumes may be sent to the United Good Neighbor office in North Bend.
Savings bond figures show Series E and H sales in Oregon for January up 3 percent or 682736 dollars from a year earlier. County officials cite strong starts toward 1972 quotas with widespread progress and national gains for January. Coos County reports January sales of 61588 dollars.
The city plans to sell sewer bends from the wastewater plant to fund upgrades meeting the requirements set by the Steve Department of Environmental Quality.
Mrs Ruth Elion Gesemen announces monthly children story hours at the Fiera M Laird Meertel Library. Readings will occur on the second Saturday of each month from 1 to 3 00 p.m.
Forest Supervisor W P Ron ayne of Siskiyou National Forest announces a public meeting to receive comments on undeveloped areas larger than 5000 acres. Eighteen areas totaling 76000 acres plus a 56000 acre candidate will be discussed at 8 p.m. March 13 in Room 100 of the Josephine County courthouse. Written comments are due within 30 days.
