William P Dewey 61 died February 17 in his Gold Beach home. An electrician for U S Plywood he alternated residence between Gold Beach and Myrtle Point in the past seven years. Services were held yesterday February 22 at Smith Funeral Home of Gold Beach.

Prometheans Present Series continues February 27 at Marshfield High School auditorium with Philip Hanson presenting Rebels and Patriots a patriotic performance using 50 characters and speeches by Adams Jefferson Webster Lincoln and John Brown Tickets available at Myrtle Point High School or at the door Funeral services were held February 21 for 62 year old Opal Oberman of Bridge. Interment followed at Dora Cemetery Rev Dave Patterson officiated. Mrs Oberman born October 5 1902 in Elkton resided in Coos County 42 years membership Bridge Community Church. She is survived by husband Charlie sons Dean Hazel and Evelyn four brothers four sisters and 11 grandchildren.

The United States Travel Service reports overseas visitors rose about 11 percent in the first eleven months of last year. UK arrivals fell in November but were up 12 percent for the period. Germany and France follow. Brazil saw the biggest increase of over 29 percent. Scouts To Hold Newspaper Drive In Myrtle Point
Myrtle Point Boy Scouts will conduct a newspaper drive this Saturday February 25 gathering newspapers only and canvassing the town. They plan their annual recognition banquet for April 1. Former Oregon House Speaker Clarence Barton Dies At 96
Clarence A Barton former House Speaker and Oregon Democrat died in Portland after an extended illness. He served four terms from Coos County beginning in 1957 and chaired the Ways and Means Committee during his first two terms. He led the House as speaker in 1960 1962 and retired in 1964. He later ran for office in 1966 and was defeated by James B Bedingfield Jr. Barton was a lawyer and community leader active in Coquille and Willamette University School of Law. He served in counter intelligence in WWII and is survived by his wife Mae and several siblings and nieces. Funeral services were held February 21 at Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church in Portland.
