A partisan editorial denounces communism and claims American youths abroad fight it while alleged Communist leaders meet in New York to map strategy. The piece warns of propaganda, espionage, and potential violence and asserts the party will keep masquerading as a political group.
In Myrtle Point Oregon V V Hagedorn reports cleaning operations on Rock Creek mill pond. The owner states he never received any warning or citation before February 2 1957 and claims previous reports were unfounded. An investigation by state police followed with no warning or citation issued.
Mayor and Mrs Robert Belloni joined a Democratic National Conference in San Francisco on February 15 to 17. They traveled from North Bend with Mr and Mrs James F Johnson. Discussions covered highways from Myrtle Point and a possible Naval Ammunition Depot relocation from Port Chicago to Coos County. The group met Governor RosseIlini of Washington and several national figures including Senator Morse and Edith Green.
Between 70 and 80 people attended the Lions Club annual ladies night dinner dance at Anglers Cafe and Lounge. The event, organized by co chairs Jack Dunn and John Heeren with committee help, featured Valentine themed decor by Mrs Laverne Brodie, Mrs Don Driscoll, and Mrs John Heeren Con Driscoll presided as president with toastmaster Ritchie Francis.

A. J. Moore is named district manager for Pacific Power and Light in the Coos Bay area, moving from Springfield where he served as district manager since 1947. Moore has been with the Pacific organization since 1922 and is noted for civic work in Lane County. He succeeds Deskin C Bergey, promoted to assistant general manager for the coast division.
Six Myrtle Point high school youths were injured when Phillip Frye lost control after being blinded by another car's lights on the way to a basketball game in Dillard. Nyle Porter is in serious condition with a broken neck and paralysis. others suffer shock, bruises, and concussions. All were taken to a Roseburg hospital. Porter remains seriously ill while others are recovering.
Leo F Blanton of Powers was fatally injured when his empty truck cab was crushed by logs rolling from a truck driven by William Schneider of Roseburg on Highway 42. He died Saturday after surgery at Keizer hospital. Survived by wife Dollie two sons Darrell and Bud and daughter Mrs R Love. Services held Tuesday at the Catholic church in Powers with burial at Sunset cemetery in Coos Bay.
The Junior Class Play Who's Crazy Now will be staged at the iHi School cafetoriums Thursday and Friday with a 8 p.m. curtain. Marilyn Puckett directs the cast as tickets go on sale for adults 1.00 students 0.75 and children under 12 0.50. The public is urged to support the annual event.
Senator Richard L. Neuberger reports Powers school district 31 has been awarded tentative entitlement of 6712.36 by the Office of Education under public law 874, with district certified for immediate payment of 5369.00. Best wishes, Richard L. Neuberger, U.S. Senate.
Jim MacKerrow spent the weekend with his grandparents the Verne Lundys while his parents Mr. and Mrs. Gordon MacKerrow were in Eugene.
Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce and Coos County highway leaders press the State Highway Commission to prioritize the Rink Creek to Myrtle Point segment of Highway 42. They argue federal funding covers 60 percent, but state action is needed now to handle growing traffic and avoid delays. A resolution, drafted by the chamber, calls for action and will be sent to the commission after appointment of a resolution committee.
City Council met to discuss curbs sidewalks gutters and storm drains for C Street Railroad Avenue and connecting streets. Over fifty residents attended as Mayor Belloni and engineers explained costs and maps. Council postponed paving until water lines are repaired with a projected 1937 summer completion for the water main work.
Bobcats beat Coquille Red Devils 57 to 50 in the last district contest of the season. Doug Schnick led Coquille with 13 points while Myrtle Point teammates Harper Mullins Csergei and Whitaker each scored 12. Myrtle Point JV and Frosh also prevailed in the doubleheader.
Joanne Lett daughter of Mr and Mrs Orlin Lett of Broadbent a Myrtle Point High 1954 graduate sailed on the S S Italia on the 9th for Europe to work in Brethren relief and rehabilitation service She studied at La Verne College two years prior and trained at the Brethren Service Center New Windsor Maryland before serving as a test patient at the National Institute of Health in Washington D C She will join six other youths overseas for a two year assignment likely in Berlin or Austria after orientation at Kassel Germany.
