Broadvent Broadbent area farmers meet to organize cow testing aimed at producing per cow records to aid culling and improve dairy profits. A Smith Hughes assistant will operate the testing at Broad Bent creamery while farmers’ records gain official standing for stock sales.
The narrator recalls a swift air trip on a famous plane used by Roach and Loew associates. Captain Jimmy Dick Inson is praised as one of the finest pilots, flying around the US in a single day with Rosch and guests. A crash during takeoff near the end of an around the world tour is noted with respect for his conduct.
Capt Melvin E. Gillette of the United States Army is sent to Hollywood for a photography and motion picture course to aid training. The plan includes sergeants and corporals using the pictorial aids to teach freshmen recruits. Capt Gillette was relieved from duty at the Second Corps Area Headquarters Governors Island and assigned to Hollywood for the program.
The Mines and Mining section notes that prospecting in the Butte district paused due to weather and other factors but may resume as engineering judgment supports continued exploration. The report cites experienced miners with global work in the field and suggests renewed activity to pursue placer and other mineral prospects while weighing practical constraints.
Thomas Reot of Myrtle Point suffered an extremely critical heart attack early Wednesday while preparing to leave for work. He has long heart trouble but this attack was described as the worst in years. His wife alerted Dr Clarke after the incident and he remained under medical care as he could not be moved to town.
Leo Saussers long time employee on the Southern Pacific section work has been notified to discontinue work here. The Marshfield gang will handle track avails in this section and Saussers and his wife plan to leave Myrtle Point once railroad placement is confirmed.
Mr and Mrs BD Huebner and son Cece traveled from their Sixes river mine to Myrtle Point for medical care. Mrs Huebner had ongoing trouble and believed the issue started from a foot injury. The family planned to return to the mine after treatment.
Myrtle Lodge members travel to Powers for the traveling trowel ceremony to be presented at the evening meeting. The trowel, given by Beye nt ing Clanco lodge at Marshfield, was received by Angus McDonald for Myrtle Lodge. About 125 people attend including district deputy grand exalter Andy P Davis.
A West Coast Telephone Company group met Tuesday night at Mra E. Knight's Myrtle Point home to discuss improving service and subscriber solicitation. Helen Endicott received birthday bouquets as a luncheon followed with coffee and cake.

Frank Way returning from Klamath Falls with a load of oars had a rollover crash near Myrtle Point on Roseburg road. He escaped injury and drove the truck into town after the Caty Transfer Line reloaded the vats and hauled the trailer, which spilled some train. The truck suffered little damage.
Two Crescent City men, Robert A McCullough and Richard Majors, pleaded guilty to illegal transport of 319 pounds of untagged salmon from Smith River to Marshfield. Both were fined 109 dollars plus costs and ordered to pay if able.
Archie L Allen of Eureka California drove off a cliff road at Bandon Saturday night. His car overturned after striking a two by two plank fence. a passenger escaped with minor bruises. Allen pleaded guilty to drunken driving in Justice Stanley's court and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and a $100 fine.
The Myrtle Union Christian Endeavor met Sunday at 2 pm at the Christian church in Myrtle Point with all officers present. Plans were made to attend the state convention in Eugene in April. The March meeting date is to be announced and will also be at the Myrtle Point church.
Evelyn Louise Roberts and Estill Lee Powell, both 20, wed at the Turner MacDonald country place "Friendly Woods" with family as witnesses. The ceremony followed by a luncheon, and the couple will reside on the Roberts ranch in Fairview. Powell has ties to Idaho and China while Roberts is from Fairview with a local family.
A planning committee led by Mrs Louis Aascon and Mrs Turner MacDoneld will design Arago's landscape grounds for picnics meetings and outdoor services. The project includes tennis courts a baseball diamond and children's play areas with land donated by John Carl a county commissioner. The site along the Arago Coquille road features a large myrtle grove near the Bert Doyle property where workers are clearing trees and brush.
Jean Guerin of Myrtle Point, a sophomore in home economics at Oregon State College, was named chair of the costume committee for the annual dance recital on February 23 and 24. Betty Lyndh Thompson, assistant professor of physical education, appointed her. Orchesis, the national honor society in dancing, sponsors the recitals with a yearly theme. this year the theme is Music.
Eleanor Arthur of Dowglas Arizona has been crowned Queen of the Desert by fellow students at the University of Arizona in Tucson. She came from a mining camp to college and is described as beautiful yet practical, preferring horse riding to gossip.
The 1932 annual report from the library shows total borrowers 1237, volumes 1784, and 21496 home uses. January 1933 figures list adult and child books, state books, and 6.85 dollars in pay books with related processing activities.
Mr and Mrs RH Lemon and daughter Louise of Myrtle Point and Everett Robbins of Broadbent joined the Powers chapter meeting in Powers. Robbins and Powers Point members were initiated in a social dance followed by refreshments and an open invitation to members and friends.
The Holy Name Catholic Altar Society will host a benefit card party on February 24 at Mrs Frank Young's Maple street hill home. Committee members include Mrs John Russberger and Mrs Frank Young, with nine or more tables anticipated for auction bridge. Mrs W E Lewellen learns Tuesday night that her niece Mrs Paul Larden lies gravely ill with pneumonia after flu. Mrs Larden, daughter of Rev R G Sumerlin, is hospitalized as sister Mrs Jack Rohrer travels from Bunker Hill to aid at the bedside.

Mrs. Bell born February 16, 1870 in India country area married J W Beal thirty years to the day before her death. She lived near Myrtle Point and aided neighbors as a devoted wife and mother with five daughters and three sons surviving along with seventeen grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Methodist church with Rev E G Nanton officiating.
A county Christian church rally drew attendees at Myrtle Point church at 2 Sunday afternoon. Delegations from Bridge, Marshfield, North Bend and Coquille attended. After the business portion a social hour followed with refreshments served.
