Capt Melvin E. Gillette of the United States Army is sent to Hollywood for a photography and motion picture course to aid training. The plan includes sergeants and corporals using the pictorial aids to teach freshmen recruits. Capt Gillette was relieved from duty at the Second Corps Area Headquarters Governors Island and assigned to Hollywood for the program.

Huebners Return From Sixes River Mine Visit

Accident on Roseburg road involves Frank Way transporting oars

Frank Way returning from Klamath Falls with a load of oars had a rollover crash near Myrtle Point on Roseburg road. He escaped injury and drove the truck into town after the Caty Transfer Line reloaded the vats and hauled the trailer, which spilled some train. The truck suffered little damage.

Illegal salmon transport leads to fines for Crescent City men

Two Crescent City men, Robert A McCullough and Richard Majors, pleaded guilty to illegal transport of 319 pounds of untagged salmon from Smith River to Marshfield. Both were fined 109 dollars plus costs and ordered to pay if able.

Driver Crashes Cliff Road. Archie L Allen Jailed

Archie L Allen of Eureka California drove off a cliff road at Bandon Saturday night. His car overturned after striking a two by two plank fence. a passenger escaped with minor bruises. Allen pleaded guilty to drunken driving in Justice Stanley's court and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and a $100 fine.

Evelyn Louise Roberts and Estill Lee Powell, both 20, wed at the Turner MacDonald country place "Friendly Woods" with family as witnesses. Planning Park at Arago to Create Community Grounds

A planning committee led by Mrs Louis Aascon and Mrs Turner MacDoneld will design Arago's landscape grounds for picnics meetings and outdoor services. The project includes tennis courts a baseball diamond and children's play areas with land donated by John Carl a county commissioner. The site along the Arago Coquille road features a large myrtle grove near the Bert Doyle property where workers are clearing trees and brush.

Jean Guerin of Myrtle Point, a sophomore in home economics at Oregon State College, was named chair of the costume committee for the annual dance recital on February 23 and 24. Betty Lyndh Thompson, assistant professor of physical education, appointed her. Orchesis, the national honor society in dancing, sponsors the recitals with a yearly theme. this year the theme is Music.

Widow Bell Dies After Long Life in Myrtle Point Community

Mrs. Bell born February 16, 1870 in India country area married J W Beal thirty years to the day before her death. She lived near Myrtle Point and aided neighbors as a devoted wife and mother with five daughters and three sons surviving along with seventeen grandchildren.
