Bottleneck on Highway 42 in Coquille Valley persists
Myrtle Point Herald reports in February a year ago that the section of highway 42 between Myrtle Point and Grays Creek is a hazard. The North Fork bridge carries 200 log trucks daily and 100 chip trucks with 30–40 accidents yearly, yet no contracts have been let for improvements. A steep Bingham Mountain canyon near NW Powers slid Saturday afternoon after heavy snow and thaw. Debris destroyed a home and car of the Pete Peterson family, forcing relocation to a neighbor’s house. City crews worked to repair the water line to the reservoir and restore access as residents inspected the damage in Powers.
