Baptists plan a meeting at Myrtle Grange hall this evening to organize a church in Myrtle Point. Regular services begin Sunday with Sunday school at 10 and worship at 11, Rev Art Skogan serving as supply pastor until a pastor is chosen. The group is incorporated with 12 members, trustees named, and Jack Spaulding is Sunday school superintendent.
In Myrtle Point the Coos County Fair Association held its 41st annual meeting with 205 stockholders present. Sam Dement was re elected president as Ernest Clausen was honored for 28 years of service on the fair board. The resolution praised Clausen for his long dedicated work and youth program support.
The Coos County Forest Protective Association held its annual budget meeting at Bunker Hill on Monday. Southwestern Oregon grazing land owners pressed for lower fire patrol rates, easier burning permits, and tax relief, with Myrtle Point representatives among the attendees. Keith Young outlined that grazing land accounts for only a portion of lookout and warden costs across 1,432,000 acres. Leona Bryant questioned the doubling fire protection levy amid reduced timber harvests, while Spaur attributed the rise to greater hazard from cutover land and new tree crops. Continued on Page Six.
Voters may cast ballots in the school bond election next Wednesday if they are registered in a applicable precinct within the district 30 days prior and have resided in the district six months immediately before the meeting. A registered voter is defined as one who has registered with the county clerk 30 days before the election.
The senior class urges voters to approve the Union High School bond election on February 17. Any registered voter may participate, and backers say a new high school and better facilities are badly needed.

Post Office Department confirms Myrtle Point will begin city mail delivery on February 16. Residents must install mailboxes or door slots and sign a card with street and house number. Boxes should be labeled with names for indexing and sorting. Apartments require a mailbox per unit and street addresses for mounted routes.
The sixth annual joint banquet of the Future Homemakers of America and Future Farmers of America drew about 170 guests to Myrtle Point High School. Officers and members from Myrtle Point and Marshfield chapters shared awards and remarks, with Kay Cribbins delivering the keynote “Growing With the F H A.”
Mrs. Chester Cook, chief observer, says the Watch Tower will open Monday at 11 a.m. at the tower east of Myrtle int on the road from Spruce street. The opening day is an open house with coffee and cake served. Mayor Jack Dunn is on the first watch schedule.
Myrtle Point officers report the 1953 Community Chest drive achieved 37 percent of the quota, totaling $933.34. Checks were authorized for the Myrtle Point Swimming Pool, State Chest, Salvation Army, and 4-H, with amounts listed.
Sixty five members of the Point Saddle club and their friends attended a dinner meeting January 22 at the Giles Valley Country Club. Officers introduced included George Goodson as president Ellis Wilberger as vice president Ernest Labatt as second vice president Mildred King as secretary and Bil Hi treasurer. The evening featured dancing to Jack Ellis and his five piece orchestra.
Treasurer Mrs Dean Bramon reports deposits totaling 1960 and 550.06 from the recent drive to help finance a proposed swimming pool. Vice President Mrs Geo Weclen notes the funds will be used for the effort. A meeting called by President Mrs Chester Weed will be scheduled soon. date to be announced.
