Dora School to stage Centennial Carnival February 14
Dora school pupils and teachers plan an Oregon Centennial carnival on February 14 in the schoolhouse. A ham supper, fishpond, bingo, and a museum of Dora history will run from 6 30 until midnight, featuring elk horns from 1905 and a 1899 rifle. Over a hundred items, including a 150 year old gold necklace and a $100 silver jar, will be displayed. The Dora community presents pioneer artifacts and notes many pupils have historic Indigenous ancestry.

Government faces billion-dollar annual storage cost for surpluses
Secretary Ezra Taft Benson told about 700 sugar beet growers at the California Beet Growers Association meeting that a realistic attitude by producers has curbed surplus trends. He warned Congress to revise the outdated farm support programs as by next July there could be more than a billion dollars in government surplus stocks with storage costs totaling about a billion dollars annually.

The Myrtle Point city council accepted Rick Plumb ing & Heating Co. bid of 6,250 for digester renovation at the sewage treatment plant. Other bids ranged up to 106,650. The panel instructed the city attorney to draft a water rate ordinance to take effect with spring meter readings. The council also voted to join the Chamber of Commerce and discussed selling timber east of town to fund water department needs. Street improvements were deemed costly and gradual, with paving seen as reducing maintenance costs by about two thirds.
