Herzog Lumber Mill at Broadbent Burns Down
The Herzog lumber mill at Broadbent owned by Gaylord Gregory under lease to Georgia Pacific burned last Friday evening. The fire started about 8 05 and the mill was completely destroyed. Insurance covered most of the estimated 150000 loss. Gregory said 23 men worked in the mill and efforts were made to double shifts at Powers mill to avoid layoffs. Rebuilding plans were not disclosed. The Herzog mill was among Southern Oregon’s most modern.

Brownlee Power Dam Starts Full Operation Adding Tax Roll Revenue
Brownlee Dam in Idaho Oregon area begins output at 360 000 kilowatts boosting tax rolls by about 10 million annually. The project, part of Idaho Power’s three dam program, uses massive concrete structures and is licensed by the Federal Power Commission. Output ramped up since August with the first unit of Brownlee, the second highest rockfill dam, and the broader development now totaling over 110 million dollars invested.
