Home Interests Conference at Oregon State College

Fishermen haul 44 inch striped bass in Coos River
Clayton Mast and Henry Muller displayed a 39 percent pound striped bass they caught in the Coos River that morning. The fish measured 44 inches long and 27 inches around. George Pearce later reported the bass’s capture to his brother L. H. Pearce and others.

Choir Dinner Honors Young People Day at Presby Church
The Presbyerian church held a morning service followed by a covered-dish dinner for about 50 attendees. Mrs Hugh Mitchell led hymns while Miss Zella May Moon played piano in a program sponsored by the local organization led by Mrs ROW Schaad. A fire meeting on Christian Endeavor work followed the service with Miss Helen Whitsker presiding. The evening union service with the Methodist church featured the pastor’s sermon Shining Lights in This Death World. An all-day meeting is planned to burn the mortgage on the church, with Ladies Aid reporting last payment.

Bobcats Fall Twice in Myrtle Point Basketball Night
Marshfield Pirates beat Myrtle Point 20 to 10 at Myrtle Point High School with Cadorette leading Marshfield eight points and Cook top scoring for Myrtle Point with four. Half time stood 8 to 5, Pirates dominated third quarter while Bobcats fumbled scoring. Earlier Myrtle Point Bobkittens lost 17 to 14 to Marshfield with Spiva eight and Huggins eight for Marshfield. In Roseburg, Roseburg High defeated Myrtle Point 34 to 24 as Sutphin led Bobcats with seven while Finlay guided Indians with eight.

The forty sixth annual meeting of the Oregon Dairymen association will be in Eugene Thursday and Friday February 2 and 3. President Fullenwider opens with an address, then talks on advertising dairy products and sales promotion. Discussions cover cream and butter gra cing enforcement, feeding and management, dairy products, and dairy cattle diseases. The banquet, research talks, and elections conclude the program.

Mrs D Breuer returned from Lebanon after being summoned by the death of her mother Mrs Alice Olsen. Mrs Olsen had lived in Myrtle Point three years and died January 30 with interment at Bandy Rides.

Ellery Porter Surratt 30 of Marshfield pled guilty to burglary of a dwelling and was sentenced to four years in the state pen. Roy M Randall 19 of Coquille pled guilty Jan 18 to grand larceny and received four years in the state pen. Thomas John Gibbs 19 of Coquille is held in the county jail awaiting trial for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Harold Schwelsinger 16 of Reedsport was arrested for grand larceny after stealing a diamond ring and money, then discarding the loot. parts were recovered.

President's Ball Returns Thirteen Dollars at Coquille Event
About 175 couples attended the President's Birthday Ball at the Coquille Valley Country Club. Music filled the night as the committee reported 1086.91 from dance sales and 21.36 from Scout and Campfire Girls buttons. Proceeds go to the Infantile Paralysis Foundation at Warm Springs.

Man Injured In Logging Rail Accident Near Powers
A serious accident occurred on the logging railroad above Powers about 30 Tuesday morning when a handcar left the rails and struck a pole. Sinnott, riding to his trap line, suffered both legs badly mangled and fractured after the side rail was knocked off. He was moved to a point eight miles from Powers before an ambulance arrived. X rays showed both legs fractured, but he was improving at press time.
