Road to Powers Blocked By Large Rain Slide
Heavy rainfall caused a riverbank landslide across the Powers road near the William Massey ranch just below Gaylord. Debris filled the road to 20 feet depth over 200 feet long, a tree stood upright in the mass, and a parked road truck was swept into the river. Coquille Crash Leaves Riverton Youths Injured
In heavy rain and glare from headlights two Riverton youths crashed into a telephone pole at Front and Willard streets in Coquille at 11 PM. Fred Berry suffered severe facial injuries. Clyde Smith was treated for shock and bruises. At a Justice court hearing Smith was fined 100 dollars and given 30 days in jail, suspended on payment. Berry was only a passenger and not drinking.
