Police Chief Clarence Ralph warns dog owners to keep dogs leashed or in yards with impounding to begin next week. The piece blends public safety, neighbor complaints, and a humorous aside about local personalities and a comic column tone about subscriptions and local life.
The Myrtle Point PTA will host Wes Terwilliger to discuss the county psychology program at its regular meeting next Tuesday night at Myrtle Crest PTA President Kenneth Stevens announces a special observance of National Boy Scout week with opening ceremonies by Jim Stublefield's troop. Refreshments and a social hour follow, and all interested in local schools are urged to attend.
Myrtle Point Civil Defense director Clarence Ralph outlined this week a shelter plan for fall out protection. He urged residents notified by postcard to contact City Recorder Leona Shields if assignments or transportation need adjusting and asked elderly or handicapped residents to seek changes. He listed essentials to bring to shelters and urged outsiders to contact him to join Myrtle Point plans or arrange their own community shelter.
The Coos County Livestock Association held its 27th Annual Meeting at the Community Building in Coquille. Speakers included Charlie Mack from the Oregon State Tax Commission on the 1962 Timber Tax Law, with a panel on pastures fortification moderated by Sam Dement. Officers for 1962 were elected, led by President Fred Gross, with John Carmen as vice president and Grant Scott as secretary. Over 180 ranchers attended with support from the Coquille Grange.
Mobil X-ray unit comes to the area on Wednesday November 1 with stops at Myrtle Hotel from 12 noon to 3 p.m and in Bridgeport from 4 to 6 20 p.m The Health Department Medical Society and Tuberculosis and Health Association sponsor the visit free of charge Those not X-rayed in the last year or with a positive tuberculin test are urged to attend at the convenient locations.
Myrtle Point Bobcats beat Brookings Bruins 57 45 with Dick Down scoring 29 and Franzen 7 as Myrtle Point led 16 at one point. They then topped Gold Beach 66 50 behind Down 24 and Hatfield 7 to seal the week.
A practice shoot is slated at the Sportsmen's Club range next Sunday February 4 at 1 p.m. The event prepares for an inner club match against Gold Beach with further shoots planned at Gold Beach February 11 and Myrtle Point February 25. The schedule lists 100 16 yard targets 100 handicap targets and one pair doubles.
