An angelic proclamation declares the birth of a savior in David's town and a baby wrapped in cloths in a manger. A heavenly chorus praises God and peace on earth as shepherds hurry to Bethlehem to verify and share the miraculous event with Mary and Joseph.
The Chamber of Commerce drew twenty six prizes at three drawings on Saturday. Grand prizes went to Matt Schneider for a rototiller at Rec-Way Hardware, Guy Sixberry for a clock in the seven to nine group, Jonathan Wrethmt for a game in ten to twelve, and Rosetta Conresy for the ten to twelve age group. Second prizes were awarded to Boomer Mitts Jackie Fickett Sesame Wesley Cindy Wigle Lisa Fisher James Whitlatch Donna Wallace Sherry Wigle and Deana Wallace. Prizes are available at the Herald office for pickup.
Oregon's new dog rabies law takes effect January 1 1976 with penalties of up to $1000 fine or imprisonment. A Myrtle Point clinic sponsored by Dr. Robert Haug runs January 12 17 for a 4 dollar per dog inoculation to aid compliance and proof of vaccination.
The Coos County Board of Commissioners approved plans for a new juvenile shelter care facility financed by a $150000 bond issue. The one story wooden building will house eight girls and six boys on 10 acres near Shinglehouse Slough, with costs estimated at 110000 to 120000. Bids will be called after street vacations, and groundwork could start mid January. The panel also reviewed Beaver Hill road work from North Bank Road to Highway 101, a 1.24 mile project with grading and paving estimated at 256000, likely starting in 1977 after rock settling.
Oregon's 38 county fairs will share 374000 from the state's pari mutuel racing take. The distribution, based on merit points, was approved at a Portland meeting on November 11 during the Oregon Fairs Association convention. Stan Masten was elected chairman and Victor Jonson vice chairman. Russell Mark became secretary treasurer.
Myrtle Point police took Paul Taylor of Bridge into custody on December 17 and held him for Marine Corps officials for being AWOL. Early Tuesday morning firefighters responded to a blaze at 1713 Maple Street, the home of Barry Boyle, where damage came from a furnace fire beneath the house.
Elvin Murray Myrtle Point assistant fire chief says permits are needed year round inside city limits. Fires thought to be trash fires occurred without permits, unless burning occurs in a barrel with a 1/4 inch mesh screen. Outside the city, permits wait until Coos Forest Protective Association summer burning rules begin.
At the December 22 meeting the board reviewed finishing work for high school business rooms with carpets and tile and marked the bond funded addition complete. Jim Johnson and Bill Little were named to the budget committee. The Employment Relations Board dismissed the district’s unfair labor practice charge as unfounded.
Last Thursday 29 members of the Career Education Advisory Team for District 41 met at the Myrtle Crest Library to evaluate progress and plan. The group backed extending school hours and higher credit requirements and establishing a construction cluster now in progress. The committee stressed aligning classes with both college bound and non college bound students and detailed progression from awareness to exploration to cluster selection and finally real job experiences. The meeting included overviews by Bud Bick and Dick Chiesa and ended with a video tour and small group planning sessions.
Myrtle Crest principal Hajduk announces a new program for grades five and six with after school practices starting January 5. Students will learn fundamentals and team play by February 10 with games at Myrtle Crest or Bridge schools. Parents are invited to participate as coaches and volunteers.
The Herald will publish early next week before New Year. All copy and advertising must be submitted to the office before Rooa on Monday December 29.
