A winter term course for owners and operators of heavy machinery and marine and industrial repair shops will cover electrical system components in trucks and stationary equipment. Ron Foord leads sessions Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in Room 2, Umpqua Hall, with tuition set at 40 dollars plus a laboratory fee.
Labor commissioner Bill Stevenson announced diversiployment as a new concept in Oregon to involve employers in fair training programs. At a Eugene workshop attended by about 900, he described the effort to help minors know their rights and employers learn fair employment techniques.
A nationwide program provides background and impartial analysis of America’s role in world affairs. Beginning in February informal groups meet weekly for eight weeks with 8 to 15 participants. Oregon Education Association President Richard Paul announced at a Tigard meeting that the group will pursue a legislative appropriation over 600 million for the 1977 79 biennium to lift state school support above 36 percent. He cited large cash carryover and inverse growth of the income tax structure as justification. He argued funds could cover inflation and new programs while avoiding proliferation of government services. He said school finance is the top voter priority.
A three credit transferable printmaking course is planned for winter term at Southwestern Oregon Community College. The class, taught by an associate professor of fine arts, covers woodcut screen print etching and lithography with tuition and fees totaling 30. Sessions run in Tioga Hall Art Lab Room 503 on Tuesdays and Thursdays 1 to 4 pm. Registration by mail or in person January 3–7 in Tioga Hall fourth lounge.
Collegiate star and former state senator Sam Dement, longtime Myrtle Point rancher and civic leader, lives by the hard working ethic taught by OSU mentor Slats Gill. He reflects on cattle and sheep operations, legislative service, and the pull of the ranch as a preferred life.
