Pioneer Cecil C. Carter Dies at 87 in Myrtle Point

Cecil C. Carter a Myrtle Point area pioneer died last Friday at age 87 after a life spent in livestock raising logging teaching and farming He was active as a timber broker in retirement Funeral services were held at Schroeder Brothers Myrtle Point Chapel with Rev John Wood officiating and interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens Survivors include three daughters a son nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren Pallbearers were John Dayton Trufus Rylander Walter Barklow Bob Geaney George McClellan and Milton Schroeder.

Stop and Shop draws reveal five names with one winner

One winner was drawn from five names at Stop and Shop last Saturday. Mr Helen Metzger of Sitkum won $100 at Safe Way Store. others named were Lloyd Schultz Franklin Roberts Mrs James A Sturgill and Mrs Thor Jams gard, Myrtle Point. A $500 prize with five $100 awards will be drawn December 30 for in store participants at 2 p.m.

First Budget Hearing Friday at High School Library

Superintendent Hubert Arm strong announces the board will hold the first budget hearing for next year in the high school library on Friday night December 22 at 8 pm. Citizens are invited to attend the session for basic discussions before later detailing specific cost items.

Flu Absences Decline but Schools Open This Week

District attendance shows improvement with 431 absences from 1540 students on Wednesday morning. Myrtle Crest and the High School report fewer absentees, while Sitkum and Dora are notably low. Arago and Maple also decrease, enabling Superintendent Armstrong to keep schools open through the Christmas break starting Friday at 1 p.m.

New Methods Needed To Notify Firemen In Myrtle Point

Myrtle Point council heard West Coast Telephone propose an automatic electronic alert for fire calls. The system rings all firemen on a dedicated net when a fire call is made, remains open until all report in, and hardens contact even on party lines. The plan would cost about 40 dollars monthly with under 100 dollars for initial install. Police phone system costs remain undecided.

Christmas Drawing at Hiland Theatre Saturday Evening

Myrtle Point crowds will attend two events at Hiland Theatre. The Lion's Club offers a free kids show at 1 p.m. featuring Buffalo Bill with Santa. the Chamber of Commerce merchants show begins about 3 p.m. with Calamity Jane. Tickets enter turkey and cash prizes.
