Residents recount days of outages and cold meals as State Highway Department crews blasted a rock on Highway 42. Despite cooperation from the highway office and R E A, blasting removed power lines and poles, causing long delays before repairs and word of the continued project.
Washington DC columnist Holmer Alexander writes in The Oregonian that scandal surrounds President Truman weakens his bid for the Democratic nomination. He argues bosses and labor leaders could deny him if a rival preconvention candidate surfaces. The piece also notes a Shrine club pre holiday dance in Coos Curry with over 200 couples attending.
Siskiyou National Forest planting program underway with about 544 thousand trees planned and 250 acres completed this fall. Wind River nurseries in Washington and Oregon seedling distribution totals around 2% million for multiple national forests. A Christ mas observance by the Sunday school is planned for next Sunday morning with each class taking part at 9 48 AM. At 10 30 parents visit the primary department at the First Methodist Church. At 11 the pastor speaks on God Way of Speaking to Men. A Christmas Vesper service begins at 7 PM with all church school children participating. Families are urged to attend. Christmas parties for the children are held this week.
Coquille special report says the Knights Templars of southwestern Oregon will hold a Christmas breakfast and devotional meeting in the Masonic hall at 9 30 a m Christmas day. A fine program is being arranged and all Knights and their families are urged to attend by order of the Eminent Commander.
The annual community Christmas program, organized by the Hi School faculty and local churches, will be held tonight in the high school gym. It features Gesu Bambino tenor solo, White Christmas sax solo, A Christmas Story reading, Fairest Lord Jesus duet, Not Even a Mouse one act, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem octette, The Littlest Angel reading, Joy to the World and O Holy Night choral numbers performed by students from multiple area schools.
Myrtle Point High hosts its annual Lettermen’s ball this Friday at 9 30 pm in the high school gymnasium. The event features Johnny Dayton and his orchestra and invites all graduate lettermen and guests. Committees include Decorations Bill Guilpatrick Invitations Dick Briggs Music Ross Pinkley Refreshments Vance Carlson Clean-up all hands.
Mr and Mrs Kirstein owners of Neighborhood Grocery completed an extended two month auto trip of about 6000 miles. They began Oct 19 from Myrtle Point visiting Centria Tacoma Seattle and California and returned home after visiting relatives including Mrs Addie Kremm Mrs J R Langdon and Mr Albert Langdon. Weather was mostly favorable with some cool spells.

Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce reviews 1962 spending on telephone improvements for Coos County. Plans include extending lines from the Theig project to serve southern areas and add three circuits to expand the M Polit switchboard capacity. Continued on Page Four.

More than 200 sportsmen from shoots ever sponsored by the local club attended the turkey shoot event. Participants lined up at the range for a series of targets and prizes were awarded for top scores.
Oregon commercial drivers must renew chauffeur licenses by December 31 though badges will not be issued. The 1951 legislature ended badge issuance. renewals continue with new cards being mailed as applications arrive. A total of 51,248 licenses were granted this year, about 1,900 more than last year.
Miss Joyce Hall returned to Portland Tuesday to resume training at Good Samaritan Hospital after a week with her parents Mr and Mrs George D Hall. Another daughter Miss Elaine Hall is attending Southern Oregon College of Education at Ashland.
Mr and Mrs E O Sempert returned from a long trip visiting Yakima Spokane Detroit Pennsylvania New Orleans Texas Woodland Hills and Berkeley along with relatives Jack O'Brien Harry O'Brien George O'Brien and cousin Jack Ingram. They noted an early snowstorm before leaving Oregon and escaped windy conditions at home.
Miss Mary Etta Morgan is appointed as the new home demonstration agent for Coos County succeeding Mrs Helen Horst. She will oversee home economics as part of the extension program and join the staff to assist in county programs and home projects.
