Myrtle Point approves two hour parking near mortuary
Myrtle Point City Council under Mayor Ervin Wilberger approved a two hour parking zone near the Cous Mortuary, to begin about two weeks after signage. The panel also granted a street light on 20th and Kings, with funds exhausted for future lamps. A bid to top 17 park trees at Pioneer Park was set at 45 dollars per tree. An alley in Border addition block 34 was vacated. LaVerm Brodie and Jim Chapel joined the planning commission for four years, and George Van Dorah was named police sergeant.

Coos Curry County Government Formed Amid Council Effort
The Coos Curry County Government was formed Tuesday night as an outgrowth of the Coos County Council of Governments. Bob Mason of Coquille was named chairman with J R Howe of Myrtle Point as vice chairman and Jack Schneiderman of Coos Bay as secretary treasurer. Electric Co op hit by largest tax ever
Since incorporation in 1939 Cuus Curry Electric Cooperative faced a 1969 70 tax year record total tax of 45637 30. Ad Valorem taxes and a 2 percent gross earnings tax in lieu are paid to the state then distributed to counties. Coos County received 4534 40 in Ad Valorem and 13755 57 in gross earnings tax. Curry County got 7007 52 and 20319 90 totaling 27327 42. The 1969 legislature raised gross earnings tax to 25 percent in 1970 and 3 percent in 1971, a 50 percent increase, and changed distributions to 25 percent to county general fund and 75 percent to the county school fund.
