District 41 awards contracts and school matters at Dec meeting

The District 41 board approved gas and fuel oil contracts with Shell Oil 31 cents per gallon Empire Fuel 3.70 per barrel for fuel oil Phillies Petroleum 1 84 per gallon and Unigas 1885 per gallon for diesel. A one hour weekly Maple Primary religious training period was set with possible use of Presbyterian Church. The milk contract and district education issues were discussed with Stave school board reports from Coos Bay and state superintendent Dale Parnell present. Jimmy King reported on recent elementary achievement tests.

Truck crashes into Coquille River west of Remote kills driver

A truck driven by a Portland man rolled over on Highway 4 and landed in the Coquille River. Police say Joseph Vacher was pronounced dead at the scene about 5 10 p.m., roughly one mile west of Remote.

Myrtle Point High School Christmas Concert Slated

Myrtle Point High School presents its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday at 7 30 PM in the high school cafeteria. Directors Les Simons John Kendall and Harvey Harms lead mixed chorus girls chorus girls ensemble and bands with selections by Bach O Come Little Town of Bethlehem Winter Wonderland and more plus a visit from Santa Claus at the end with treats for children.
