Lions Club Sponsors Free Christmas Show at Hiland Theatre

Myrtle Point Lions club and Ervin Wiberger hosted a free Christmas party for Hiland Theatre youngsters. The theatre donated the venue and two films, with Santa visiting and treats for children. Wiberger notes attendance exceeded the 550 capacity, with about 600 present.

Broadbent crossing blocked after UP freight derailment

A Union Pacific freight consisting of six log cars jumped the tracks at a switch into Broadbent siding on Wednesday around 7 p.m. The mile long string blocked the crossing for several hours until crews cleared one car and reattached others to resume traffic.

Community tree shines through unified Myrtle Point effort

The Myrtle Point Christmas tree on A Street has glowed for 25 years despite a dead Port Orford cedar from root rot. The town thanks Albers Pacific Power and Light Leep Logging Floyd Bridgham Myrtle Electric General Telephone and the fire department led by Mitch Myers for supplying materials equipment and manpower to assemble the community tree and downtown decorations.

Sound of Music Tryouts By School District 41 At Myrtle Point

The district plans a Broadway musical presentation at Myrtle Point high school auditorium in March with high school and district students filling adult and children roles. Seven children ages five to sixteen will be cast from across the district. Tryouts for children are set for January 6 at the high school auditorium, readings and singing ability assessed, no prior preparation needed.
