The completion of the Coquille River watershed study is delayed due to temporary funding shortages. Colonel Winegar of the Portland District Engineer’s Office said the survey could be finished in 10 to 12 months if funds are found, with an estimated cost of 14000 dollars. A request to reallocate unused funds to the project was discussed with local officials and organizations including the Coos County Soil and Water Conservation Committee and the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce.
C M Hills of Myrtle Point purchases three three year old Purebred Milking Shorthorns from Carl and Don Smith. Cows named Trixie Gay Beulahs Red Pride and Beulahs Pride Std transfer recorded by the American Milking Shorthorn Society in Springfield Missouri.
The registrar's office reports 140 Coos county students enrolled at Oregon State College this year. OSC welcomes enrollees from all counties, states, and 47 other countries, with named local entrants including John Anderson and Ward Armstrong among others.
Maurice R. Franks argues against pessimists who claim labor reform is impossible. He recalls unions and laws and notes the Wagner Act era expanded rights to organize and strike, breaking injunctions and ending bulk resistance. He frames labor gains as defeating naysayers through law and action.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce urges the city council to cap all meters for free parking Monday through Saturday to aid Christmas shoppers. Mayor Bud Griffin indicated the request would be granted soon. The council also weighs eliminating meters and forming committees led by Don Troxell with named chairmen for civic affairs, parks, highways, industry, transportation, finance, publicity, tourism, education, fish and game, retail trades, and more.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's Club hosts a Christmas shoot at their club grounds on Sunday December 20 starting at 10 am. Bacon hams and turkeys will be available for prizes. Ammunition and cats will also be offered on site.
Hartwick Dahl, 57, Georgia-Pacific truck driver, was killed Monday afternoon when a tree toppled onto his vehicle at Bone Mountain. Funeral services set for Friday at Schroeder's mortuary with Rev. Norbert Heins officiating. Burial at Bethany cemetery, Silverton. Survivors include wife Opal, two daughters, a sister, two brothers, and three grandchildren.
Oregon State College enrolled a record 290 international students this year with 125 in the graduate school. The largest groups enroll in engineering 72 agriculture 71 science 66 education 339 forestry 13. More than half 149 come from Asia.

More than 600 adults attended the Hogan Realty Pyramid Block Co open house with Henry A. Schroeder & Sons. Visitors traveled from Gold Beach Coos Bay Coquille and Myrtle Point to see new homes and learn about local block and concrete products from the locally owned company with a year round staff of six increasing to fourteen in summer.

An Extension division program brings a class in art taught by Miss Jean Sutherland of the University of Oregon. It will meet at Coquille High School from 7:00 to 9:45 PM starting January 6. Open to beginners and advanced students. teachers not required.
Merchants in Myrtle Point plan hundreds of dollars in prizes through individual store drawings while a Chamber of Commerce sweepstakes awards 75, 50, and 25 cash prizes plus 12 turkeys on Saturday December 19. The Hiland theatre hosts the Kids Christmas party with Santa and free admission for 12 and under. Coupons determine winners and are redeemable at participating stores and the theatre with postings back on the following page.
Various local churches announce upcoming Christmas events including Sunday school programs at the Christian Church and Myrtle Point Baptist Church, a Christmas film at the Church of the Brethren, the St James Lutheran children’s service, and Bethlehem Inn scenes at the Alders Church with candlelight services scheduled through December 24.
Ralph D Kring assistant cashier at Security Bank retires December 31 after 27 years of service. A banquet at Anglers cafe honors him with a self winding wrist watch and reminiscences by Wallace Dement. Kring, resident of Myrtle Point for 40 years, previously mayor and city councilman, plans to stay in Myrtle Point.
