Myrtle Point District 41 Bond Issue Fails by 95 Votes

District 41 voters in Myrtle Point rejected a $384000 bond proposal on December 12 by 95 votes. The bond would fund an eight classroom facility on the southeast edge of the city for fifth and sixth grade pupils at Myrtle Crest, moving Spruce School enrollment to Myrtle Crest.

Goral Wins Narrowly After Referendum Results Announced

Goral wins by 113 votes with 298 yes and 393 no. Bridge votes favor bond issue with 39 yes and 19 no. Dora approves with 1 dollar yes and 8 no. Broad Bend shows 11 point split with 35 yes and 36 no. Slightly wider margin noted.

Spruce School Bond Defeat Prompts Board Deliberations

The school board weighs plans for the Spruce students after a 384000 bond defeat on December 12. Initial idea was to relocate pupils to Myrtle Crest and adjust the Spruce campus usage accordingly.

Victor Lopez Services Held in Powers

Rosary for Victor Lopez Jr. will be held Friday December 16 at 7 00 p.m. in the Myrtle Point Funeral Home Chapel with Father Michael Fleming officiating. Mass will be held at Powers High School gym Saturday December 17 at 2 00 p.m. A Powers resident for 18 years the veteran of World War II was born October 28 1913 in Trinidad Colorado Survivors include his father Victor Lopez Sr Trinidad Colorado daughters Katheryn Lopez Coquille Sharol Baldwin Gayle Lynn Lopez Mary Ann Lopez all of Powers son Ricky Stephen also of Powers three brothers Felix Denver Isadore Cheyenne and John Trinidad five sisters Wera Gabri Pueblo Calif Martha Trihill San Pedro Calif Nena Vasquez Cheyenne Rose Waterloo Iona Sadie and one grandchild Albert N Baldwin Powers.

Local Churches Observe Christmas Festivities in Community

Christmas programs fill local church calendars with plays songs and carols. Myrtle Point Baptist Church hosts a Sunday School Christmas program December 18 at 7 00 pm titled Christmas Is a Miracle and other churches including Church of the Brothers Calvary Chapel Nazarene and First Presbyterian present youth and children led pageants and concert events through December 18 24 and beyond.

Schools Hold Annual Christmas Programs Across District

The district schedules multiple Christmas programs from Dec 15 to Dec 23. Bridge and Broad Bend schools host events this week, with Myrtle Point and Maple Primary also presenting shows. The district closes for holiday vacation Dec 23. Dec 21 offers driver licenses and permits at Myrtle Point City Hall. The MPHS pep band and student leaders are named, and a kindergarten benefit drawing is noted.

Coquille Valley Forms Community Improvement Association

At a Dec 13 meeting at the Coquille Valley Art Center the Coquille Valley Community Improvement Association was organized. Officers: President Don Farr, Vice President Ben Nichols, Secretary Treasurer Mrs Wib lard Morgan, Directors John Gearhart and Mrs Elizabeth Stevens. Dues $1 per member yearly. Next meeting Jan 10 at 7 36 pm at the Art Center.

Myrtle Beach Christmas Party Planned at Local Theatre

A community club will host a Christmas celebration on December 17 at 1 08 p m in the theatre. Santa will visit and hand out Christie bags to children after a brief program featuring music and a short film for young attendees.
