District 43 votes on 384000 bond for new school site

On Monday December 12 voters in School District 43 will cast ballots on a 384000 bond to buy a site on Highway 42 near Myrtle Point. If approved, an eight classroom building will be constructed to house the fifth and more.

Bobcat Awarded All American Rating at Myrtle Point High

Myrtle Point High School’s yearbook The Bobcat earned an All American rating from the National Scholastic Press Association affiliated with the University of Minnesota. Otto Parry Service Held

Funeral services were held in Coquille for Otto Parry a 78 year old veteran of World War I and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles. He is survived by widow Katherine and daughter Marjourie Robbin of Myrtle Point, brother Clarence Perry of Washougal, a sister Mrs Thena Warner of McMinnville, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A girls basketball team began practice for the season meeting North Bend in Myrtle Point. team strength reduced to 40 with two squads of 20.

Melvin Zumwalt a 18 year veteran cashier at Security Bank resigns effective January 31 to devote time to his Gravelford Road ranch. No successor named yet. Meanwhile Coquille Valley Elks continue their Christmas basket program aiding area families with rebuilt toys by Lous Robinson and clothing by Mrs. Charles Barrett.

Passing of Chet Noyes Noted in Coquille Area

Obituary details Chet Noyes of Myrtle Point Coquille died at 59. Born July 2 1907 in Nebraska he moved to Myrtle Point in 1943 after earlier moving to Coquille. Survived by wife daughters and several brothers and sisters. Services at Pioneer Methodist Church in Coquille December 8 with burial at Myrtle Crest Memorial Gardens. Memorials suggested to Pioneer Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.

Mrs Charlee Housten named new supervisor of nurses at Mest Hospital replacing Mrs Mac Johnson who has served 47 years. Housten has 12 years on staff, is a Bridgeport resident and mother of five. Johnson was honored earlier this year on Mee Johnson Day for long service.

CEEB Tests Held December 3 in MPHS Cafeteria

December 3 exam day saw students from Coquille Powers and Myrtle Point take the college entrance examination in the MPHS cafeteria. The tests, supervised by Mr. Arthur Motz, are required for entrance to Oregon colleges and universities.

Coos County Fair Board Eyes Future County Takeover

At the December 6 meeting held at the Myrtle Hotel the Coos County Fair Board decided to wait until the May budget session to address county takeover. Commissioner Walter Barkliow indicated the new commission may favor transferring control of the fair to the county.

Postmaster Milton Schroeder reminded Myrle Point residents that many holiday mails go out before Christmas but urges all to verify Zip Codes at the lobby desk. He advises proper packing materials and clear addresses to prevent gifts from ending in the dead parcel office and notes a special five cent Christmas stamp.
