Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce hosts a turkey scramble this Saturday December 16 at 2:00 p.m. on Spruce Street between 4th and 6th. Twelve white broad bred turkeys will be awarded to those who catch them. Downtown merchants stay open late for Christmas shoppers and Senta appears at Secuity Bank entrance from 10:53 a.m. to noon and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Mrs. Ruth Adaline Frye aged 50 died December 10 in Eugene. Services were held December 13 at St Pauls Episcopal Powers with Father Gordon Anbee officiating. Burial at Powers Cemetery directed by Myrtle Point Chapel. Survived by husband Robert of Powers, mother Mrs Goldie Roger of Bridge, son Robert L. Frye of Eugene, daughter Dianna D Hyde of Gold Beach, sister Mrs Lois Berry of Puyallup.
The Coquille Valley Community Concert Association elected officers for 1968 including President Mrs Cedric Cross and Vice President Miss Lara Morgan. Other posts cover membership chair Don Farr publicity Rev Robert McNabb secretary Miss Inez Rover and treasurer Rev Oris Doty. Directors from Bandon Myrtle Point Coquille named.

Churches across Myrtle Point announce a busy Christmas schedule with Sunday School programs and candlelight services. Highlights include Christian Church December 17 30 p.m. Epworth and St Pauls Holy Communion times and a Coos Bay choir Christmas Cantata Life Transcending conducted by Mrs Woosley Friday night at 730.
A new law changes MPHS graduation requirements to 220 semester hours from 22 credits. The shift applies to freshmen after this semester, tallying hours by weekly class contact. For instance English meeting daily earns five semester hours, aligning with current credit values with no extra hours needed for graduation.
MPHS students in four classes decorate areas for Christmas with a five dollar prize to top decorations. The seniors dazzle upstairs with a library theme, while sophomores dress the office area with a stained glass window and evergreen hall. A 16 foot tree in the cafeteria, sponsored by Student Council and decorated by National Honor Society, glows in red and blue lights.

The City Planning Commission voted Monday to urge the city council to amend zoning to allow a mobile home subdivision. Greer addition off East Hams on the hill is favored over the Py heated site due to existing sewer, road access, and subdivided parcels suitable for about 25 lots. The plan follows prior discussions since February 1966 and a 1967 council meeting set for December 18.
