Carl Robinette retires from Forest Service

Carl M. Robinette retires from the Forest Service with a party on November 18 at Powers Ranger District. Attending were his wife Gerry and family including daughter and son in law Orbin Beldwin from Medford. Robinette served 1942 to 1944 as a carpenter and returned as a fire control aid in 1967 and 1966, with a 1962 to 1978 career in multiple roles on the Powers Ranger District of the Siskiyou National Forest.

Myrtle Crest Honors Roll List Released by Principal Franzen

The Myrtle Crest School announces the quarterly honor roll and honorable mention recipients for seventh and eighth graders. Eighth graders named include Virgina D. Evans and Christie L. Horton with high marks, while numerous students receive honorable mention for scores ranging from 3.00 to 3.86.

OCA to Hold December Meeting in North Bend

Myrtle Point Post Office Extends Hours for Christmas

The Myrtle Point Post Offices will stay open all day Saturday December 9 and December 16. Parcels to the east should be mailed by December 11 or 12 to ensure Christmas delivery. Patrons are urged to include ZIP codes and separate local from out of town Christmas cards. Post staff wish patrons a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

MP couple killed in accident on Highway 42 near Bridge

A log truck dump crushed a car killing Walter Edward Reich 58 and Ruth Reich ? of Bridge Route. State Police said the Reichs were eastbound when a westbound log truck driven by Vernon Ellis 40 of North Bend shed a load on a curve. The car was shoved 75 feet and plunged toward the Coquille River.

Visitation Team to Visit Myrtle Palm High School

Myrtle Palm High hosts Oregon higher education visitation team on Wednesday December 15. The delegation will inform students about college courses admission housing costs financial aid and scholarships. Parents and press invited to attend and discuss post high school plans.

Gun club elects state officers in December meeting

Myrtle Point Gun Club elected officers at the December 4 meeting with Sam Baer as president Jim Luhrs as vice president Clarence Strong as treasurer Red Stoltz as secretary and directors Paul Luhrs Carl Gilbert and Jeao Leep. Ralph Reisberg and Red Stoltz announced the Merchandise School at the club on December 10 from 10 a.m. to dark with beginner squads. Merchandise includes turkeys hams bacon and chickens. Snack will be run by the Myrtle Point Lions Auxiliary.

Christmas Concert Set for Southwestern Oregon College

The ninth annual Christmas Concert will be Sunday December 10 at 2 30 p m in Prosper Hall. The free event features the Brass Choir College-Community Concert Band directed by Frank Leuck College-Community Chorus directed by Elaine Bessey 4 Trombone-Octet directed by Ray Riscol plus Santa Claus and helpers. Major selections include Beck Cantata For Unto Us a Child is Born with soloists and a Nutcracker Suite program. Children may sit on the floor with pillows for the narration Twas The Night Before Christmas sung by Santa helpers.

Marshfield Senior High Christmas Vesper Program Planned

The 33rd Marshfield Senior High Vesper program titled The Glory of Christmas will be presented Sunday December 17 at 4 pm and Monday December 18 at 8 pm. Miss Helen McPherson directs the Fine Arts Department in her final vesper before retirement in June. The concert features the Concert Choir with soloists, mixed chorus, girls glee, and a five-window stained glass backdrop by Pat Snyder and Jack Lester, with about 200 vocal students participating.

Action board sets meeting

The Board of Directors of the Southwestern Oregon Community Action Committees will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 13 at 7 30 p m in St John s Episcopal Church Bandons.
