Gilbert Gable Dies Noted Curry County Leader at 55
Gilbert Gable 55 longtime Port Orford mayor and Curry county advocate died Tuesday from acute indigestion after a brief illness. An eastern miner interests representative turned Port Orford resident, he led the city since incorporation, built a lumber mill and breakwater, published the Port Orford Post, and promoted mineral resources. Survivors include his widow a son and a brother in Chicago. His body was sent to a mortuary in Banden for eastward burial.

Approximately 1600 farmers in Coos County Agricultural Conservation Associations are eligible to vote next week in the AAA community elections. Lieutenant Glenn F DeGrave announced that 180 men were enlisted in November from sources including Portland 47 Medford 21 Salem 16 Corvallis 12 Spokane 13 Marshfield 10 Walla Walla 9 Dewiston 8 Beker 9 Klamath Falls 7 McMinnville 6 LaGrande Bend The Dalles and Astoria 1 each. Approximately sixty Myrtle Point high school girls will attend the annual Girls League conference at North Bend Saturday. Miss Helen Austin, advisor, leads the trip in three school buses with county participation in programs and elections. Miss Gally Wright and Miss Helen De Boer will sing a duet. Starting On Grade To Be Taught In Oregon Driver Training
Instruction in starting on a grade and parking on hills will be taught in the Oregon course of driver training at the local session on December 4. The program, now in its seventh weekly lesson, has trained over 12,000 since its start. 40 students are enrolled locally. The course is sponsored by Karl Snell, secretary of state, as part of the state accident prevention program.

Junior High Health Show Highlights Attendance Winners
The Junior high Assembly staged a health show with a Judy and Jack puppet presentation on good teeth led by Mr Fowler of the late board of Health Education. Attendance banners awarded to Milz Austin’s room 86 percent, Bennetts 8 per cent, Beatty third with 921 per cent, and Smith fourth at 91 per cent. In the 8th grade, the banner went to the volleyball team captains Shirley Train Nancy Haga Merlyn Freeman. Christmas break runs Dec 19 to Jan 5.
