The Coos-Curry Jersey Cattle Club held its inaugural pure-bred Jersey auction Sunday, with top prices for heifers. Consignees included H S Cadman of Sidney Cadman and Ralph C Cope Jr at Langlois and others across Coos and Curry counties. Officers are John Hobin as president, W R Davenport as vice president, and Ben Monson Hauser as secretary.
The Hiland Theatre will offer a free matinee for kids this Sunday starting at 2 o'clock. Evening shows begin at 7 and 9 p.m. The 5 p.m. opening time has been dropped as part of the fall and winter schedule.
Homer C Gant a Myrtle Point native and Atherton resident has been named regional executive officer for the office of Price Stabilization covering California Arizona and Nevada He will direct operations for the regional and seven district offices in the three state area and reports to John H Tolan regional director Gants prior two months service was as a regional OPS organization expert.
James Robertson of Powers died at Mast hospital last Wednesday. Rev Wilmer Briggs officiated at Saturday's 2 PM funeral at Schroeder Funeral Home. Burial followed at Norway Cemetery. No surviving relatives were known.
In pastor A Theodore Smith's absence the Rev G A Gray of Coquille will deliver the sermon at the First Presbyterian Church Sunday morning September 2.
The Myrtle school district will reorganize into three buildings with students split by grade levels. Third and fourth grades will meet in the old building on Spruce Street. fifth through eighth grades will attend the new school. Teachers for the year include Miss Idral Oneting and Mrs. Me, with Arnold Malby leading the band.
Myrtle Point High School announces five new faculty members as it prepares to open on September 4. All registrations will be completed during the orientation session.
Farmers and groups toured tansy ragwort infested fields led by Frank and Zaneema in jeep pickups. Rex Warren OSC crop specialist outlined control methods and plans for a 1952 weed control project. Attendees urged expanded PMA support and seeding burned areas to grass.
Oregon opens three day deer hunts September 15 to 18 in Josephine Jackson Coos Curry and Hood River counties. Quotas remain unfilled and hunters may apply by letter before September 6 or until filled. No fee required but general deer tag needed. Areas include Josephine and Jackson near cultivated lands 3000 permits, Coos and Curry near Bandon 800 permits, Hood River near agricultural lands 500 permits.
The Blind Bogey Tournament at Coquille Golf and Country Club Sunday drew a large crowd. Bud Spangler of Coquille won. Roy Dayton and Pat Pardo shared second. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. Ora Pardo and Mrs. Phyllis Dayton. Andy Richardson claimed low net. Bill Day ton low gross. Miss Genevieve Strong high SS. Next Sunday a two club nine hole handicap event with prizes. Mrs Charles Nichols left Monday for Portland to visit relatives and handle matters.
