The county court orders W. D. Leaman to repair the Arago Bridge decking and to widen and straighten Stringtown road in West Myrtle Point. Work to start soon.
Justice of the Peace districts No 10 at Bridge and No 8 at Myrtle Point were ordered merged this week by the county court into No 8 at Myrtle Point. O Hooton resigned his duties as Justice of the Peace in Bridge this spring and the positions were consolidated to one JP at Myrtle Point.
Donald Uo Ford of Los Angeles and Sirti Ann Enegren wed last Wednesday in a small ceremony conducted by Glens Ro Cole E asworth Morton and Vera Kyle. Mrs Alice Perrott returned to sheriff duties Monday as Miss Blythe Cousins resumes work after a paralysis scare. C G Caughell resumed deputy tax collector duties Monday after a week off at Valley Points. Mrs E Carryll Brodie and her mother Mrs Richard N Finley visited Roseburg and brought Finley home from the Veterans Hospital on furlough. Weasley Devos and Clarence Dodge were jailed on burglary charges and held for grand jury by Justice C E Maybee.
Mrs Moe Waggoner leaves the county health department for the school superintendent’s office. Miss Blythe Cousins assumes Waggoner’s health duties and also covers the assessor and county judge offices. Waggoner’s salary is divided five sixths to the school fund and six seventh to the tuition fund, while Cousins’s salary is charged to the county court and health department in specified shares.
The estate of Winifred E White who died November 15 1932 in Los Angeles California was admitted to probate this week. Lester T Dement of Broadbent is administrator. Jesse D Clinton Roy Farrett and P W Laird appraised the estate at $5 000. Heirs include Floyd M White husband Dovina California and Russell White and Elbert White sons of Los Angeles California.
The record lists State of Oregon versus Robert L Pur an E R Herndon Ruth A Herndon and others for foreclosure seeking mortgage on parcels in Marshfield. Valderama versus Christopher Valderama seeking divorce noting January 17 1928 Coquille wedding and no children. Leonard Y Housel versus Waive Otella Housel for divorce noting June 20 1931 marriage at Coquille and no children with alleged cruel treatment.
HF Wirth, candidate for governor, and Maxwell of Medford spoke in Myrtle Point on a southern tour. They touted a $30 weekly minimum for labor and a $125 monthly minimum for teachers, plus tax cuts on property improvements to spur lumber and home building during stops in Marshfield, North Bend, Reedsport, and Drain.
Charles Mack of Bridge was brought to Mast hospital Wednesday morning in very serious condition after a leg rolled on him at the Farmer and Houser logging camp at Bancroft. He sustained a broken pelvis and internal injuries but was reported to be getting along splendidly at press time.
Miss Rachel Bones of Xtalka school Gaylord and Harold Chaney of Millington win county health club first places and earn trips to the state fair to compete with other winners for a spot at the Pacific International Livestock Exposition in Portland. Other winners include Ua Storm New Lake Patthe Nosler Cunningham for girls and Donald Schmidt Norway Howard Moy Cunningham for boys.
Mr and Mrs Wallace Dement hosted a Friday evening birthday supper for friends from Myrtle Point and Marshfield. Guests from Marshfield included Miss Thalia Larson Miss Hazel Ann Nasburg Tom Maginnis and William Brown while Myrtle Point guests were Miss Avertis Laird and Elton Schroeder.
Miss Rosa May James daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben James of Bridge married Teddy Miller foster son of Mr and Mrs W A Lett at Broadbent in a quiet ceremony conducted by Elder C E B Wolff. Only family members witnessed. The couple left for Independence for several weeks.
Signs for LH Pearce garage and Hub Clothing and Shoe were repainted Saturday afternoon, while Cora Steele erected a new Myrtle Point Laundry sign on Spruce street last week.
Miss Helen Blake Deyoe daughter of Mr and Mrs Warren Deyoe of this city became the bride of Paul Byrum Tanner of Klamath Falls son of O B Tanner of Atlanta Georgia at the home of her parents. The ceremony featured a ring rite with Mendelssohn music and a reception following. The couple will live in Klamath Falls after September.
Andrew Maiden of McKinley fractured his right arm just above the wrist while cranking a donkey engine at the Chanay camp. He was taken to Coquille for reduction and will be off work about two months.
Due to the resignation of Miss Margie McCulloch the Myrtle Point Business Men's association appoints Irene Mullen to fill the secretary post. The association office will be located at Mast hospital.
Word came to L P Linn principal of the high school that Maude Purvine has been selected for the county demonstrator post in Columbia County. Purvine taught home economics at the local high school last year. The district opens next Monday without a home economics department and a teacher may be chosen at the next school board meeting Wednesday evening. This promotion is welcomed by Purvine’s friends in the area.
Albert Lime and his children Clyde Laura Bernice Gerald and Glenda with Mrs Albert Gulstrom and sons Junior and Darwin traveled to Bandon Tuesday and rented a beach cabin for a few days.
Dr Edith Irene Phillips and Miss Nellie McKinley of Portland visit Myrtle Point and Coquille chapters to observe Natal Day in Marshfield. They are hosted by Mrs R H Mast and attend meetings and a flower drill, with luncheon and breakfast gatherings planned across the trip.
Coos County Fair opens in Myrtle Point on Wednesday September 12 for four days of exhibits and amusements. The Harry De Garros trio of five gymnasts will perform daily with four acrobatic acts. L H Pearce secretary of the Fairbor’s reports other attractions include horse races chair races carnival rides stock parade and a large exhibits set. Dancing with the Silver Spray orchestra from Bandon will provide music on Thursday Friday and Saturday evenings. A larger crowd is expected this year.
Arago day at Bandon brought nearly 60 people to a city park picnic. The afternoon featured a beach stroll, horseshoe games, swimming, and surfing. Attendees included multiple families from Bandon and nearby towns such as Grenada Alameda Marshfield Langlois Juntun City Ashland Port land and Ventura California.
Mrs LW Traver of Portland came Tuesday after a week’s visit with local relatives. Traver, formerly principal of the high school here, left Myrtle Point 25 years ago for Marshfield where they lived 10 years. They later moved to Portland where Traver now heads the Bureau of Records. Willie Sinky of Arago had tonsils removed in Coquille Monday morning.
Warren M Rema of Alvadore and Miss Maude Alice Holladay of San Francisco married at the Coquille courthouse Saturday by County Judge D F Thompson. The couple will reside in Alvadore after a visit with De Rema in Upper Catching Creek and time with the Del Rema family at Bandon.
Roy and Riverton schools apply for FERA aid to improve facilities. The two plan painting programs while Riverton also intends to grade and improve school grounds.
For the third straight month the Coos Bay Cow Testing association tops state butterfat per cow at 3886 pounds. Coquille valley ranks third with 335 pounds per cow. Ti hamook association second in July with 3713 pounds total. A grade Jersey cow owned by Charles McCulloch on Haynes Inlet produced 814 pounds butterfat and 1566 pounds milk, the state’s top July yield. T M Coliver of Catching Inlet owned the second highest producing cow with 805 pounds butterfat.
Senator Joe Dunne will speak at the Republican picnic in McCloskey grove Norway Sunday as his only appearance in this section on a 17 day Oregon tour. Arthur W Priaulx and other statewide candidates are invited. Sheriff Henry E Hesa oversees barbecue with free beef coffee and sugar. Afternoon events include baseball, horseshoe pitching and races with Myrtle Point high school music.
The annual pre-school meeting for rural teachers will be held in Coquille circuit courtroom on Saturday with teachers from Coos county to discuss school problems and secure supplies. Nearly all schools are opening next week.
A Wednesday crash caused damage to two vehicles described as touring designs by Jack Fabry. The report notes both cars were involved and sustained damage in the incident.
Dr and Mrs O H Clarke returned Sunday from a two months trip starting July 5 visiting Lag Lake City Chicago New York City Fall River Massachusetts and Willamette with Mrs E G Banton. Robert Clarke met his parents at Roseburg and accompanied them home.
The Arago community church celebrated its 11th founding anniversary with over 100 attendees. Rev R C Young of Myrtle Point led a morning sermon and Sunday School followed by a noon picnic. An afternoon program featured congregational hymns, scripture, solos, a sermon by Rev G A Gray, a benediction, and several duets and a trio.
