The county board surveyed routes including Benson Road North and Noble Road. Each parcel of land used for the North Lake road was valued at $1.00 per tract, as the county outlines compensation for right of way.
OD. Lesman and road patrol men were directed by the county court to grade the road near the Deadmond residence in Fairview, enforcing maintenance work and improving travel conditions for residents.
Luther W Sibley and Alice Bon tette of Eureka were wed Friday by W Wilder. Dorus H Ossebarth and Cloris A Hatcher of Coquille united Saturday. W W Anglia Alex McLeod and Hilda Claire Adama of Bandon intermarried by County Judge D F Thompson Saturday. A license issued Saturday to Louis Bt Dennis and Beatrice Kingsford of Marshfield. W Raymond Wilder joined in marriage Saturday. Charles Bebell of Waléport and Ada M Baldwin of Marshfield also wed Saturday.
Nu A Sweet was sentenced Tuesday to two years in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to grand larceny. He was granted an 80 day stay of execution to take effect after the period, and was a night watchman for the W T Culver company warehouse in North Bend. He allegedly stole Oriental rugs and draperies belonging to R T Boren.
John Dewny Woolf age 4 and Erick Mastenson age 17 were committed to the county bastle Sunday by Justice J Stanley on a disorderly conduct charge and sentenced to six months with a two year term. They were jailed by order of J J Manley Tuesday.
Several divorce suits are noted including Frank J Keefer versus Leona Keefer and John W Downs versus Thelma Downs. Decrees grant custody to mothers in Willett and Herndon cases. Credit Service Company vs Sam Taylor involves garnishee examination rescheduled for September 21.
Articles of Incorporation filed for Rancho Vista Development with HQ in Los Angeles California. Directors are Mul len G W Ames and J E Crawford. Capital stock 49000 in 1600 shares. 30 shares common stock and 1300 shares seven percent cumulative preferred stock. Amended filings rename to Rancho Development Company with LeRoy Harrod as president and G W Ames as secretary.
The Oregon California Petroleum corporation assigned several oil and gas leases this week. Listings include Daisy Sherman Kirschbraum 45 64 acre in section 28 Fairy Creek near Bandon, Mary Steadman 5/64 acre in account 728, August Neps 5/6 acre in section 28, Alice Bartmer 5/16 acre in section 28, and Frances Wolverton and Bess Adams 5/32 acre in section 28. Several Epworth League members and guests enjoyed a Bradley Lake outing on Sunday. Activities included motor boating and hiking with two campfire gatherings at 2 and 6 to roast wieners and marshmallows. Names include Robert Clarke Esther Nelson Leonard Ranton Harlow Evans Lila Davenport and others.
A 66 year old prospector named Kit Carson was jailed in Powers on July 3 after a drunken disturbance. He was severely burned this morning from inhaling fumes while lodging in the Powers jail, in very serious condition.
About 500 attended the McCloskey grove gathering at Norway where Sen Joe E Dunne Republican gubernatorial candidate and James W Mott congressional candidate spoke. Speakers urged policy on future bonds, a pay as you go plan, with baseball and horseshoe games and a Norway Gravelford win 8 to 3.
Two McKinley CCC boys Stanley Sniva and Eugene Kordowsky were seriously injured at work when dynamite exploded last Friday afternoon. Kordowsky was thrown, with back scratches and bruises. Sniva lost an eye after a severe facial injury. They were taken to Roseburg Hospital by ambulance.
The Lee Ray Poet Veterans of Foreign Wars Myrtle Point votes to suspend weekly dances during Coos County Fair week to cooperate with the Fair board. The regular Saturday dance will resume after Fair week. the VFW hall will be dark on the night of Saturday September.
Mr and Mrs Henry A Schroeder sail tomorrow with Mrs H G Hermann to attend the state fair. Lela Bogan and daughter Jacqueline will ride with them to Eugene then head to the McKenzie River area. Mrs Bogan and daughter have been guests for 10 days awaiting Fran Wyland’s hospital visit. Schroeder and Hermann plan to return from Salem Sunday.
Mrs Caroline Richey led a state Democratic party organizing effort in Myrtle Point on Tuesday in conjunction with the governor organization. Lans Lenvo, Democrat state committeeman of Coqute, introduced her.
The Myrtle Point Lodge of Royal Neighbors planned a rummage sale for Thursday and Friday September 20 and 31. The sale would be held in the building if it could be obtained for that date.
Unusual incident in Mrs Vede Mann's yard as a garter snake constricted a hen's neck. Timely intervention saved the chicken and prevented a fatal outcome.
The city proclaims September 13 14 and 15 as holiday afternoons to enable the Coos and Curry County Tit Association exhibition in Myrtle Point Oregon. Businesses will close from 1 to 5 pm those days to allow participation and attendance at the fair programs.
Enrollment reached 282 pupils on Monday, 30 more than at the end of last year's first month. More registrations are pending as several new families are represented, suggesting improved city conditions.
Myrtle Point schools and outlying districts will be closed Thursday and Friday for the county fair. The Myrtle Point grade school also closes Friday for Children’s Day at the fair. Many rural schools may stay closed beyond fair week to allow students to visit Coos and Curry County fairs and exhibits.
A fire near the fir rock above Herbert Snyder ranch on Rock Creek in Bancroft threatened virgin timber. About 25 CCC boys from Camp Bradford at Remote fought the blaze, now under control, with campers expected back by morning. A separate fire at the McCracken place on Catching Creek also spent itself. Other timber fires have damaged outlying areas around Myrtle Point during the week.
Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce meeting presided by Jesse Clinton endorsed supporting the Coos County Fair Board. Wallace Dement outlined legal matters while the chamber approved placing cars in the Paul Bunyan celebration parade and buying banners to advertise the fair. Elton Schroeder and R L Tucker to lead the parade promotion committee. volunteers urged to contact them before Friday 5 pm.
Ranchers Mr and Mrs Tom Hall and family moved from the Walter Donald place at Broadbent to the recently vacated A F Willson ranch at Lee. A F Willson and family have rented the Taylor Cement ranch in Fishtrap and moved there. Neighbors gathered at the Willson home in Lee to bid them farewell with a surprise party last week.
Harold Draper sustained a broken hip after his leg was rolled on at the Chaney camp on Baker Creek. He was rushed to Mast hospital by ambulance around 8 30 this morning where he is employed.
Enrollment stands high with 240 students registered at M P High School. About 15 more are expected after work on logging and iron fields ends following the County Fair. Last year 226 students registered by the second week, with five post graduates, 52 seniors, 64 juniors, 62 sophomores and 57 freshmen making up the body.
Miss Helen Vincent, a Molalla Union High School and Oregon State College alumna with a home economics degree, was elected to fill the vacancy left by Maud Purvine. She will begin duties at the local high school Monday morning. Edwin Schroeder was hired as janitor for the next school year. The board met with all members present and set September 26 for the next meeting.
The Woman's club board and officers met at Mrs Henry Rosslew's home to plan the winter season. Officers include Mrs Henry Rosslew president Mrs C E Huling vice president Mrs Paul Breuer secretary and Mrs A M Sunstrup treasurer. Directors are Mrs Chris Nelson Mrs L P Linn and Mrs L A LaFlamme. The first meeting of the year is scheduled for the last Monday in September.
City council at city hall on Tuesday evening appointed a budget committee to meet September 17 for preparing the city budget. The panel includes N. G W Perkins WE Lundy Frank Davis P W Laird M J Morrison and A A Schriefer. The ordinance committee was tasked to study water rents. Fire department can order a new fire siren and two gas masks. The marshal’s request for three extra policemen during the Fair was granted.
The Lions face Myrtle Point in a tense matchup at Joueen’s core tonight. The game features local business ties and a community crowd expected to fill the venue.
Henry Willems and family from Visalia California visited Mrs. Price in Texas. The Willems family traveled to Powers to visit a niece, Mrs. Fowler of Lancaster California, whom Mrs. Price had not seen since childhood.
The Security Bank of Myrtle Point continues its service policy and will be open this Saturday from 5 until 3 in the afternoon to cash pay checks arriving late. If business justifies it, the policy will continue in the future.
Tri State Sheepmen plan a ram sale at the Klamath County fairgrounds on September 18 drawing breeders from California Nevada Oregon. Colonel W Therapeon will auction the rams assisted by local committee headed by Harry Lindgreen and featuring speakers Tex Condon and R L Clark on financing and marketing of the industry.
Readable notes describe Myrtle Point Fair preparations with visitors from Coos County expected to attend on three days. Exhibits and displays are being set, with Herman Hebr Airways and light music planned in the dance hall to entertain attendees.
Mr and Mrs George Hampton of Arago will head the Coos county booth at the state fair in Salem. The display features Coos county cheese and cranberries from the Bandon district, plus a model house from Dernath Shingle Mill in Coquille. Mr and Mrs Everett Lafferty and son Allen joined relatives in Salem over Labor Day weekend.
