Two Autos Collide On Stringtown Road West Myrtle Point
Two cars damaged in a crash on Stringtown Road near Mrs Minnie Kroeger place last Thursday afternoon about 8. Paul Breuer hauling men from a hayfield met truck driver Dilnard Mast on a blind curve. Mast braked causing Breuer’s car to smash into Mast’s vehicle. Wrecker towed both cars to town. Breuer’s car suffered about 100 dollars in damage. No serious injuries reported. County officials planned to widen the curve.

Ernest Howe 65 died of a heart attack Thursday afternoon in a Rogue River mail boat truck en route to Agness. Howe had been mining nearby, began from Silver Creek, and was accompanied by Earl Johnson and another passenger who said I think I'm going, boys. The body was transported to Gold Beach and then Portland for services held Tuesday.
Powers man suffers broken collar bone after snag fall
Roy C Griggs of Powers employed at Coos Hay Lumber Camp 2 was struck by a falling snag Wednesday morning and sustained a broken left collar bone. He was transported to Marshfield hospital by company ambulance and is reported to be getting along nicely.

Port Orford Fire Destroys Several Buildings. Coast Guard Aids Effort
A blaze that began about 2 PM Wednesday in Port Orford gutted the Bennett general store and restaurant, the Osiander barber shop, and the pool hall. The Long store was damaged. the service station and a nearby hotel survived only thanks to Coast Guard water lines and a bucket brigade. Fire spread was checked by a shifting wind and the coast guard and Bandon fire department’s efforts, with several windows shattered by heat. Insurance was limited to the pool hall at about $1,000.

The Arago school board selects Eleanor Corthell of Marshfield and W Ray Parker of Medford for the faculty as the new high school opens Monday September 10. Parker and his wife occupy half the teachers’ quarters with three children, while Miss Alice Scott and Miss Cortell reside in the other half. Scott will teach the three primary grades and is expected back soon. Mrs Emily Hickam of Arago and Mrs Otha Ray of Myrtle Point will again teach the intermediate and upper grades. Property Owners Pave Powers Walks In Coquille
After the Fred Powers concrete store was completed last May the paving of a main sidewalk started. A Coquille contractor gathered bids and about two thirds of property owners agreed to pave. Concrete walks now surround the bank, hotel, and high school gym with some last summer board walks left. The commercial club will oil the main streets this week and signs will be added for renamed streets.
