Descendants of Baltimore Colony Honored at Fairgrounds
Descendants of the Baltimore Colony marked the 100th anniversary of their pioneer arrival in Coos County with a Thursday gathering at the fairgrounds. More than 200 registered with Elton Schroeder, chair of the local committee, then 300-plus attendees shared a barbecue feast in Oak Grove prepared by Don Lucas of Agnes. Wallace Dement served as master of ceremonies, introduced by Schroeder. Dement’s grandfather Samuel Dement settled in Coos County before the Baltimore Colony arrival. Continued on Page Three.

Attendance tops Coos County Fair with 24 700 gate total
Following the death of Mrs Earl Roush the Coos County fair board treasurer could not release official figures. He recalled four day attendance at the fair grounds surpassed 25 000 including about 500 exhibitors and reporters with free passes. Gate totals were about 5 000 Thursday 5 000 Friday 12 000 Saturday and 2 700 Sunday with 24 700 at the gate.

George Royer, driver of the 410 school bus, is sued in Coquille for 35750 by Bernice Joy Crook, a minor, alleging brain concussion eye injury and facial scars from a September 19 bus rollover on Lee Valley road due to negligent driving and loss of proper lookout.

Myrtle Point Schools Open September 8 With Registration Set
Registration for new students in Myrtle Point districts is September 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. First graders register at Maple primary, second graders at Maple or Spruce depending on area, third graders at Spruce, and grades four through eight at Myrtle Crest. Regular classes start September 8 at 8:45 a.m. Myrtle Crest and 9:00 a.m. at Maple and Spruce. Bus routes mostly unchanged except McKinley-Norway limited to Dean Heistand ranch.

Johnson Wins Senior Bread Championship at Coos County Fair
Mrs. J F Johnson of Powers captured the senior bread baking title at the 48th annual Coos county fair. She also won a free trip to the Oregon State fair with expenses paid by Security Bank. Second place went to Mrs Jim Fawcett Myrtle Point, third to Mrs George Albertson Coquille, and fourth to Mrs Wallace Waggoner Coquille. The driving of the lead car was by Dave Stitt with a Dale Hervey provided vehicle.

The Herald learns from Umpqua Drug Co. at Reedsport that Mr and Mrs Don Schirmer have purchased the entire interest of Perkins Drug Store in Myrtle Point as of August 1950. The Schirmers had operated the store since purchasing it from Flentgie Perkins about two years ago.

The 48th annual Cops Co fair parade in Myrtle Point drew an estimated crowd of 4 500 to 9 000 as Mother Nature blessed the event. Mrs Dick McCukes and her large group of helpers earned thanks for their work while the Schroeder float captured the sweepstakes prize in the Oregon Centennial themed procession.
