School Reorganization Plans Heard At Chamber Commerce Meet

Myrtle Point Chamber heard Bob Powrie and school superintendents discuss a state reorganization plan under a new Oregon law. A public hearing is set for Sept 10 at Myrtle Point High School cafeteria for residents of district No 20 through Union High No 2 to comment. The chamber will form an educational committee to study the plan and inform the public.

History of J. L. Smith's Service to Coos County

Coquille Valley golfers defeated a large field of men and women in a mixed foursomes event at Bandon on Sunday. The final score was 2917 to 1242, with the cup donated by Mr and Mrs Carl Elvers and Mr and Mrs Arnett of Lena's cafe Coquille. The crowded course reflected strong local interest in golf.

Officials report 18 512 paid attendees at the 48th Coos County Fair, with additional estimates for Wednesday entrants, exhibitors, reporters, and underage spectators pushing overall totals to about 24,012 for the event.

Georgia Pacific removes the 1188 piling Ford log boom three miles from Coquille River between Coquille and Repton at an estimated 5000 dollars. The boom built by Alexeo of Coos Bay for Smith Wood in 1836 has not been used for a decade and its storage role is replaced by a Johnson log pond.
