The network announced today that Gary Coster will be featured on CBS Breadest on August 31 from 0:90 to 8 pm. Imogene Coes will present the program. Coster has appeared on the Deny Kaye Show.
Southwestern Oregon Community College will administer fall 1966 placement tests on Monday August 30 in Room 7 of the Liberal Arts Building. Students lacking SAT or CEEB scores in English and mathematics must take the tests, with counseling center appointments available by calling 756 4121 extension 35. Tests are free and not required for certain adult classes or individual courses. The Liberal Arts Building is near the airport on Colorado Street in North Bend.
Dr Oliver H. Clarke, 85, died Monday at Fairview Rest Home after six years there. Born February 4, 1880, he studied at Stanford and Harvard Medical School and practiced in Portland before moving to Myrtle Point. Surviving are daughter Genevieve Preston of Cheshire Oregon and sons Oliver of Stockton California and Robert of San Francisco.
Lions Club plans a banquet at Elks Country Club to honor Governor and Mrs. Mark O. Hatfield. Governor Hatfield has accepted the invitation and will attend along with guests and Lions ladies. The date is set for September.
Oregon Tax Research evaluates Coos County fiscal procedures at Kenneth L. Lewis's request, noting budget format adequacy, expenditure estimates, revenue realism, cash carryover, cash handling, tax delinquency provisions, and personnel costs with cautious recommendations for surplus reduction and ending balance formalization. The report was released August 15, 1966.

Oregon truckers faced penalties as the State Public Utility Commissioner continued a crackdown on un authorized motor carrier work. Mounce received an emergency permit in 1964 limiting activity to one logging operation in Douglas County, yet was found hauling in Coos County for Archie Clawson. Leep Logging Corp of Myrtle Point was fined $500 for transporting logs from Bone Mountain to Myrtle Point for Acme Mill Co.

District 41 announces filled vacancies as opening day approaches. Sylvia Hastad arrives from Lawton to join high school library staff. Lois Stewart takes remedial reading in elementary grades. Ben Elliott from Arago will teach drafting and shop. Loyd Wells to handle larger classes. Robert Eames from Los Angeles moves to teach 7th and 8th grade math at Myrtle Crest.
Petty Officer Frank P. Miller of the U S Navy reported a record of over 1005 hours of continuous power generation at the Navy Antarctic nuclear power plant serving McMurdo Station. His duties include operating chemical equipment and maintaining four water systems while monitoring radiation to ensure crew safety. Also noted is a Veterans of World War I meeting on August 20 at the Scout Building with a potluck dinner.
All schools will be closed Monday September 1 for a countywide in service program at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay. Six county superintendents invited a distinguished educator to lead the session and pose questions to spur further information.
Mr and Mrs Floyd LaFarlette owners of Club Lehua Hotel and Coffee Shop announce they will operate a flash house supper club at 90 West Main Coquille starting in a month or six weeks The Legion club location is planned to reopen with state liquor board approval and hours from 4 p m to 2 38 a m with live entertainment.
