Fire incidents involve Coos Bay owner and local services
Volunteers stopped a car fire in a vehicle owned by Robert Taylor of Coos Bay at 3 pm on August 15 on Fourth Street. A city patrolman found the blaze. Volunteers were later called at 10:30 pm on August 17 to Bruce Winningham’s residence to stop a fire in the car engine.

The Coos County Fair drew over 25 000 attendees this year, up 2 000 from last year, with 11 000 on Saturday and 1 364 at the Friday Loggers Rodeo. Premiums exceeded 9 200 dollars and commercial booths neared capacity as exhibits and rodeos posted gains.

Coos County Timberettes won first place in the parade held August 14. Bandon high school rally and pep squad claimed second, North Bend high school rally and pep squad took third. Fair Officers Praised for Smooth Security at Local Fair
Floyd thanked fair officers for efficient security this year. The North Bend police department provided eight officers Friday and six Saturday. Coquille was thanked for special and reserve officers attending the fair across Thursday to Saturday. Special mounted deputy sheriffs noted.

Accident Ends In Fatal Crash In Oregon Creek
Kenneth Martin Dutschke aged 25 and Ray Hemmings died in an automobile crash on Highway 42 near Glen Aiken Creek between Myrtle Point and Coquille. Police say Dutschke’s westbound car crossed into the turn, plunged 15 feet into a creek, and struck a tree and rock. Ambulances, police, and fire crews responded. both men reportedly died at the scene. Dutschke left four children. Hemmings had three. Mrs Hemmings was in Indiana with the children.

Police arrest John Orble Rivers on vagrancy charge
John Orble Rivers forty five a former Cliff Wofford carnival concessionaire was charged with vagrancy Monday at 5 a.m. He pleaded guilty and was jailed fined 186 dollars. Authorities held William L. Wilson and David M. Dunn overnight and turned two juveniles over Aug. 13 during the Fair grounds horse loose reports.
