General Charles MH Martin addressed a North Bend Democratic central committee banquet with praise for the New Deal and Jeffersonian democracy. Local nominees, including Hugh McLain for county judge and R H Hawthorne for county commissioner, were introduced along with brief post–speech remarks by several speakers.
A group of 12 ag boys and their instructor R W Schad camped at Old Orchard above Powers. They hiked to Eden ridge and John son creek for logging observations and gold sluicing, visited China Flat CCC camp, swam, played games, picked huckleberries, rode burros, and held a campfire cooking contest.
Austin Dodge, manager of the Hiland theater, announces the lobby has been redecorated this week in an attractive stipple design enhancing the popular showhouse atmosphere.
Henry Schroeder attended a funeral directors meeting in Portland on Sunday evening. He returned home in a late model convertible sedan after acquiring a new ambulance for the Schroeder firm, highlighting a focus on emergency service.
The Van Dyke Colored House of David team heads to Coquille to face the Loggers after a lopsided win last season. The Loggers expect a tougher matchup this year with strong pitching and defense led by Murray.
About 154 IOOF members and friends attended the Southwestern Oregon Odd Fellows picnic at the Fair Grounds. The program opened at 4 p.m. with music by the high school band. Speakers included Jesse Clinton and Hugh Kimball of Bowden. Grand Secretary Williams A. Moran of Portland gave a talk. Afternoon sports followed. Next year the event moves to Powers with Clifford Duncan as president, George Rubin as secretary, and Grady Johnson as treasurer.
A truck owned by Joe Evernden and operated by Ivan Everndenleft the road between the W Taylor Cement ranch and the Fred Massey place near Broadbent. The driver escaped uninjured.
Mies Kima Russell daughter of Elmer Russell of this city has been elected to teach at Catehig Inlet school this year and will leave for Marshfield to assume duties. She will continue ushering at Miland theater until departure. Miles Russell is a Myrtle Point High School graduate who attended the University of Oregon for a year and Southern Oregon Normal School at Astoria and has taught at Base HM school on Cement Creek and other local schools.
A gravel truck driven by Bill Dye and a logging truck owned by Roy Denney operated by John Huff collided at the upper end of the P F Bartlett place in the Twin Oaks district Monday morning. The logging truck went over a steep embankment and rolled twice. Huff jumped after the first upset and escaped uninjured. Both trucks were badly damaged and towed into town by the wrecker.
R W Schaad a local Smith Hughes instructor left for Newberg Tuesday and will bring his bride back with him. The couple have rented the Vehroeder house on the northwest corner of Seventh and Maple streets and expect to be ready to move in a week or so.
The examiner of operators and chauffeurs Ward McReynolds will visit Myrtle Point tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for licensing. Those seeking permits to drive cars should contact McReynolds.
The Presbyterian Ladies Aid met at Mrs. Verne Lundy’s home with Mrs. Cora Steele and Miss Emma Schneider Iselatine. After a regular business session, four members enjoyed refreshments and the afternoon was spent sewing for an upcoming bazaar.

Members of the Cous and Curry County Fair board met in Marshfield to plan the upcoming fair set for September 12 to 15. L H Pearce is leading repairs to the grandstand bleachers and track while buildings receive cleaning and repairs for large displays. A Bandon orchestra will provide music for the fair dances and a loud speaker system will broadcast the pie. The annual Bandon telephone workers picnic honored G E Krieger new West Coast Telephone sales manager at Everett and F H Mac Gougan replacing him as Marshfield district manager. About 125 attended from Myrtle Point Coquille Bandon Crescent City North Bend and Marshfield.
Capt and Mrs D P Evans and Lt and Mrs A Urbank attended a Medford hotel banquet with CCC officers. The event aimed to unite CCC leaders for lectures on conservation work. Robert Fechner and A Trombly were the main speakers addressing national park system efforts.
Congressman Charles H. Martina plans to attend the Democratic picnic at McCloskey grove in Norway, August 26. The event, hosted by the Democratic Central committee, features state candidates and will include speeches, ice cream, and coffee, drawing crowds from Curry and Coor counties.
Coos county 4-H livestock club members will meet at the Ben Moomaw farm at Arago tomorrow morning at 9 30 for a livestock judging tour. Professor Olliver from the state college hog department will coach members in judging hogs sheep beef and dairy cattle. Participants will judge several farms and each class to help select a Coos county judging team for the state fair. Members should bring lunches and swimming salts.
A field meeting at Ernest Clausen farm in Broadbent will review irrigation of clover pasture root crops and alfalfa using water pumped from the South Fork Coquille river under a cooperative with Mountain States Power. Engineers will explain costs and potential yield gains, with Arthur King leading discussions and King planning other county meetings this week.
One of Coos county's oldest pioneer families gathered at the Osk grove on the Clarence Schroeder place near Arago for their yearly reunion. Members Price, Rock, and Frank Robison joined by sister Mrs. Martha Averill of Corvallis and many relatives attended the dinner with visiting kin from Corvallis, Coquille, Glendale, Basden, and other nearby towns.
Bradford CCC camp will host a dance in the Oaks Pavilion tomorrow evening with the boys' own orchestra providing music. Special features and splendid music are promised and all are welcome.

James Walker Cormie aged 36 died after a log truck crashed near Myrtle Creek on a Wednesday afternoon. He had joined the logging camp about a month ago and was riding in the vehicle when a component failed causing the fatal accident.
Tomorrow at Fairview the 4 H club led by Deadmead hosts a field tour on certified potatoes. Other topics from last winter will be covered along with a visit to the D J Rice farm on Denisis Creek as the program scene.
